Apparently these were taken over at Dragon Con this year, and features Summer Glau and her fellow “Firefly” cast (including Morena Baccarin, Sean Maher, and Jewel Staite) posing with fans who showed up. You can find all of the pics here. The catch is, someone took all the pictures with Summer Glau and the fans and combined them into this very awesome gif. You’ll notice that Summer Glau, who is a professional, after all, has a singular smile throughout the photos — until, well, this dude shows up at the end. Via CHUD. In a word: Awesome. (Note: you’ll need to let the .gif file below load completely first before you can get the full effect.)

Apparently Dragon Con is a pretty groovy place to be, at least if you’re at the “Firefly” panel with Summer Glau, Jewel Staite, Sean Maher and Morena Baccarin in attendance. Missing from the panel is Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk, though not for long. The hilarity begins around the five minute mark and continues well into the second video. Obviously it’s all fake and for the benefit of the attendees, which is very cool of them. Too bad they didn’t get Summer Glau more involved. Via Blastr.

I’m a fan of Joss Whedon’s sci-fi space western, “Firefly” and the follow up movie “Serenity,” but I am by no means a “Browncoat.” That is the preferred name for the uber fans of the franchise that, even after cancellation and a movie to tie things up, are still rabid for more. “Firefly: Still Flying” gives them what they asked for. It’s the third companion book to the series published by Titan Books, and this time is more about the experiences, and memories of the cast, crew, and writers of the beloved series. To me the show was instantly likeable. It was superbly written, wonderfully acted, and was a nice take on the sci-fi genre. It was futuristic but not so far way from where we are and where we’re headed. It was smart, funny, and most of all fun. And the characters, I mean what’s not to love about Mal, Zoe, Wash Jayne, and the rest of the crew [...]

In case you missed it, “Firefly” fans (oh yeah right what are the chances of that?), here’s the opening scene from a recent episode of Nathan Fillion’s crime show “Castle” on ABC, which co-stars the oh-so-lovely Stana Katic. The episode was a Halloween-themed episode, and featured Fillion, the male star of the show, dressing up in his old “Firefly” uniform during the opening seconds. Here’s the YouTube version: And here’s the Hulu version, with the full episode:

Joss Whedon’s fan favorite Firefly TV show never made it past its first season on FOX. Heck, it never really had much of a chance, what with FOX being, well, FOX. The show did prove to have enough fan momentum that it convinced the Powers That Be to greenlight a movie version, but the movie didn’t exactly do gangbuster business, which means a sequel is highly unlikely. Whedon himself has said as much just recently. But have no fear, if you loved the TV show, you’ll want to get the Blu-Ray version of the first and only season when it’s released on Blu Ray November 11, 2008. Here’s the complete specs for the Firefly Season 1 Blu Ray from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment: JOSS WHEDON’S EMMY® AWARD-WINNING SCI-FI SERIES VENTURES INTO HIGH DEFINITION FIREFLY THE COMPLETE SERIES Available November 11th On Blu-ray Disc From Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, Futuristic Western Includes All 14 Episodes Presented in Stunning High-Def [...]

When you’ve starred in one science fiction show, it’s almost a given that you can waltz into another science fiction show without any background check. Once you’ve been on one show, you can go to another without a problem, because even though something like Firefly was lowly rated and barely seen, you’ve still got sci-fi cache. Which explains why Jewel Staite easily jumped from the cancelled Firefly to the running Stargate: Atlantis, where she’s just nabbed a regular starring role. Jewel Staite is our Sci-Fi Babe Spotlight of the day. A quick bio of her from Wikipedia: Jewel Belair Staite (born June 2, 1982 in White Rock, British Columbia, Canada) is a Canadian actress, best known for her role in Firefly and the subsequent film Serenity. She also portrays the character of Dr. Jennifer Keller on Stargate Atlantis. Staite is perhaps best known for her role as Kaylee Frye in the short-lived science fiction/western television series Firefly and its subsequent [...]

Our sci-fi babe spotlight for the day is Summer Glau, who is quickly becoming the go-to girl for “hot sci-fi chick” characters. She’s played the role in Joss Whedon’s cancelled Firefly (and the movie version “Serenity”) and is now wowing boys everywhere as the hottest looking Terminator since, well, ever in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles TV show, which you can catch on FOX weekly. A quick bio from Wikipedia: Summer Glau (born July 24, 1981 in San Antonio, Texas) is an American dancer and actress, best known for her role as River Tam in the short-lived science fiction series Firefly and follow-up movie Serenity. She now appears on the Fox network TV series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Glau was classically trained as a ballerina and also studied tango and flamenco. A professional dancer since age 12, Glau relocated to Los Angeles in 2002. She appeared in a few television commercials, but Glau’s first television credit was a guest [...]
