Comic-Con ‘09: Farscape Panel
To be honest with you, as a longtime fan of Farscape, I had every intention of attending the show’s Comic-Con ’09 panel as just a fanboy. I’m happy to say that there were actually some news-worthy nuggets from the panel. Ostensibly a press release to fans about the upcoming Farscape megaset DVD from A&E (you can read more about that here), the panel, which featured stars Ben Browder (snazzily dressed in a suit and tie) and Claudia Black, creator Rockne O’Bannon, and Henson Company head honcho Brian Henson (they did all the puppets on the show, as well as produced it), nevertheless offered up some interesting news about the future of Farscape.
Attention, Farscape Fans: O’Bannon, Browder, and Black at Comic-Con ’09!
Now this is certainly exciting news for fans of Rockne O’Bannon’s brilliant sci-fi show Farscape, which ran on the Sci Fi Channel from 1999 to 2003, and included a mini-series to tie up loose ends. Just got a press release that says the show’s creator and its stars Ben Browder and Claudia Black will be hitting up this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego later this month as part of a special panel to introduce a Farscape DVD mega set that will include all four seasons of the show, courtesy of A&E Home Entertainment and the Jim Henson Company. As someone who has never missed a single episode, this is very good news.
Sci-Fi Babe Spotlight: Claudia Black
While writing that article about the Henson Company making their Farscape episodes available on iTunes, I was reminded why I loved Farscape so much. Sure, the stories were wacky, the series itself was highly unpredictable and always full of surprises. And oh yeah, one other thing: Claudia Black played a kick-ass heroine chick so well it was hard to imagine anyone else playing Aeryn Sun, badass Peacekeeper turned badass fugitive.
Farscape Finally Comes to iTunes
So, are you one of those people who have been waiting with bated breath for the Henson company to release Farscape onto iTunes for you to download? Um, why? Dude, if you were a real fan you would have bought the DVDs years ago! But hey, I’m not judging you. Or am I?
Sci Fi Channel to Bring Back Farscape!
Well, sort of. It’s been a long time since new “Farscape” episodes hit the airwaves, so long that I can’t even recall. Was it three years ago? Four? Somewhere along there. I’ve forgotten already. In any case, the Sci Fi Channel has seen the error of their ways, and while they’re not going to be bringing back the series, Ben Browder, Claudia Black, and everyone else included, they will be bringing back Farscape in some capacity — namely as a new web-only 10-part series. Basically, webisodes.
