Let’s face it, this isn’t that much of a surprise. The ratings have been abysmal, even with some positives from time-shifted numbers, Joss Whedon’s “Dollhouse” never really took off as Fox had expected, or was hoping for after giving it a year two commitment. As it turns out, maybe they should have saved “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” instead — or perhaps, it wouldn’t have mattered anyhow. Of course, it didn’t help putting the genre show on a night that has been given somber nicknames like Friday Night Death Slot and Graveyard Shift. That’s like going on a date with someone name “Body Odor Bob” and then wondering why he smells.
In any case, the official word comes from THR, who reports that the network has officially closed the door on any further adventures of Eliza Dushku and the Dollhouse gang. The network also confirms that the show will return to the airwaves with all-new episodes on December 4th as planned. [...]

Love it or hate it, any show that allows the gorgeous Eliza Dushku to parade around onscreen acting like a slut in service of “story” is a-okay in my book. But apparently not so much for most Americans, because Whedon’s “Dollhouse” continues to struggle in the overnight ratings, though seems to be making up for it with time-shifted numbers, i.e. DVR’s, online viewing, etc.
The latest bad news for “Dollhouse” comes from EW, who says that the FOX network apparently has so little faith in the show that it will be pulling Echo and company during the all-important November sweeps period, when networks typically run their strongest shows in order to elicit the most ratings, from which they set their ad rates.
Once November is gone, FOX will bring back “Dollhouse” in December for back-to-back episodes on its usual Friday night time slot. Unfortunately for “Dollhouse” fans, EW doesn’t think there will be anymore new episodes once the show finishes up its [...]

Here’s your first look at the delightful Summer Glau doing the first of her multi-episode arc on Joss Whedon’s “Dollhouse”. Summer will make her first appearance in the 2.05 episode “Public Eye”, airing October 30, 2009. She will be playing a character named Bennett, a programmer who supposedly shares a past with Eliza Dushku’s Echo.

I haven’t been keeping up with “Dollhouse”. There’s really no reason for it, I just, well, have a lot of other things to do on Friday, and watching TV is really not one of them. I have a hard enough time finding room to watch my DVRs of “Stargate: Universe”. Having said that, if you are a fan of Joss Whedon’s “Dollhouse”, then rest assured, FOX has officially announced that they will, indeed, air all 13 episodes of the show’s Season 2.
As we speak, Whedon and company are shooting the eighth episode, and THR has confirmed via a phone call to Whedon that the fanboy favorite is currently writing the thirteenth episode. Since it’s looking unlikely that FOX will order more episodes for the current season, and a Season 3 is also looking gloom (but then again, ain’t it always?) given the show’s less than average ratings, Whedon plans, he says, on giving fans some “closure” with the 13th episode [...]

Sounds like SyFy is pretty happy with Friday’s two-hour premiere of their latest new show, Stargate: Universe. Besides trumpeting the “best franchise premiere performance in four years”, the channel’s press release also took time out to get a rib kick into Joss Whedon’s poorly performing Dollhouse on network (i.e. free) TV.
SYFY CONTINUES RATINGS ROLL AS STARGATE UNIVERSE POSTS BEST STARGATE FRANCHISE PREMIERE PERFORMANCE IN FOUR YEARS
SGU Outdelivers FOX’s Dollhouse at 9PM
New York, NY – October 3, 2009 – Following record ratings for Warehouse 13, Eureka, Ghost Hunters and Destination Truth during its most-watched third quarter ever, Syfy’s viewership surge since the July 7 brand evolution continued on Friday, October 2, when Stargate Universe premiered to the best franchise premiere performance in four years, drawing more than 2.3 million viewers – and besting FOX’s Dollhouse at 9PM (ET/PT).
Stargate Universe, which stars Robert Carlyle, Lou Diamond Phillips and Ming-Na, grabbed 2.35 million total viewers along with a 1.7 HH rating, 1.32 million [...]

Despite the obvious and various charms of Eliza Dushku, I haven’t been able to keep up with “Dollhouse”. I have love for Joss Whedon, the creator of Dollhouse, for his previous work with Firefly and also Buffy, but Dollhouse didn’t immediately grab me and since I have had my attention span surgically removed as a child, most of the Dollhouse season passed me by.
We have a small taste here of the unaired Dollhouse episode called Epitaph 1, soon to be showcased on the upcoming Season One release DVD. In it are reasons to believe. If anyone deserves the benefit of the doubt it’s Joss Whedon. Plus, this upcoming season we have the added attraction and addition of Summer Glau to the regular cast. I’ll definitely hit the first episode and see if Joss ups the drama. Thanks Empire.

Whedon fanboys have been clamoring for it ever since Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles got the axed and Joss Whedon announced that it was a possibility four months ago, and now it’s official: Summer Glau will indeed be joining the cast of Whedon’s Dollhouse.
According to THR’s Live Feed, Glau will be joining the show’s upcoming Season 2 as a recurring character named Bennett (her last name, I assume, as she doesn’t look like any “Bennett” I’ve ever seen, if you know what I mean), who is described as a Dollhouse employee who shares a secret past with Eliza Dushku’s Echo character. What are the chances that that “secret past” involves a lesbian love affair? Only in my fantasies, buckaroos. (And the thousands of Whedon fans out there, I presume.)

According to THR’s Live Feed, this is an official poster for the upcoming season. The tagline is interesting, but come on, it’s all about the Dushku, am I right? Dollhouse Season 2 returns September 25 on Fridays.

Say, how about reuniting with her Firefly and “Serenity” bud Joss Whedon over at his new show Dollhouse? You know, the show that got renewed despite being of way lesser quality than Glau’s own Terminator show? Yeah, that one. Maybe Whedon can get her on the show as compensation?
Michael Ausiello over at EW thinks it’s a very real possibility:
The noise you’re about to hear is the sound of the Whedonverse exploding. Joss confirms to me exclusively that, well, he’s one step ahead of you. “If anybody thinks [bringing Summer onto Dollhouse] hasn’t occurred to me already then they have not met me,” he says. “I mentioned it to her before [SCC] was canceled.
With the networks officially kicking off their upfront presentations this month, we’ve now gotten official (and in some cases, semi-official) confirmations about which shows are coming back, which ones are gone, and what new offerings will be available to the genre fans out there. The schedule for the upfronts are: FOX’s begins today, followed by ABC on Tuesday, and CBS on Wednesday. NBC already did theirs earlier this month.
THIS LIST WILL BE UPDATED WHEN APPROPRIATE
NBC:
It was recently confirmed that Chuck will return for a third, albeit shorter season (more info here), while Heroes will also be back for a fourth season. Meanwhile, the fantasy/parallel Earth show Kings is dead in the water, and so is the new Knight Rider despite a lot of tinkering. The net’s supernatural show Medium is also gone from the network, but didn’t stay gone long. It’s now at CBS.
New additions include the mind-reading The Listener and the post-apocalyptic Day One.

Variety has reported that Eliza Dushku will thankfully be back on television next year in “Dollhouse”. “Dollhouse” is about a group of people, mainly consisting of hot girls it seems, that get themselves programmed to be other people for secret agenty and other purposes usually involving Eliza in leather or lingerie. This may be a selective memory of mine as I am neuronically challenged this morning (martini’s and scrabble last night in an epic battle of three letter words).
Joss Whedon needed a bit of warm up time I think with Dollhouse. I think he’s hit his stride. Go Joss go. Thanks Variety.
Nix here
Just wanted to add to endy’s post that Fox has ordered the show for a guaranteed 13-episode second season. This could mean the show may get picked up for the rest of the year if ratings are better than they were in the first year. Also, Variety adds that the show is likely to stay in its [...]

Don’t lose faith just yet, Dollhouse fans. According to the show’s star Eliza Dushku, negotiations between Joss Whedon and the Fox network are currently ongoing as we speak on the fate of the show’s second season.
Twitters the Dollhouse star:
DOLLHOUSE talk’s are goin’ on~ it’d be an extravaganza bonanza to return 4 rnd 2!
What type of negotiations, you ask? My guess is Fox might be asking Whedon to lower the cost of production or something financial like that. I’ve seen an episode or two of Dollhouse, and except for the huge Dollhouse set, it doesn’t look particularly like an expensive show, so maybe Fox wants something else? Who knows.
Point is, there seems to still be some hope left in this here Dollhouse…

FOX is still keeping mum on whether it’s going to renew Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse for a second season or not, and at this point, well, it’s not looking so good, Whedon fans. But whether Dollhouse comes back or not, the first full season of the show will be arriving on DVD and Blu-ray on July 28 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, and we have the cover and full specs for the disk set below.
From Joss Whedon, the creative mastermind behind Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, comes the provocative Dollhouse, a sexy, suspenseful thriller starring the stunningly talented Eliza Dushku. As an “Active,” the mysterious Echo (Dushku) serves as an unwitting agent of Dollhouse, an illegal underground organization that provides its elite clientele with programmable human beings. Actives receive personality imprints, allowing them to temporarily become anyone or anything—the perfect burglar, lover, spy, or assassin. Now, with the FBI and her own shadowy past closing in, Echo must face [...]

You know, I don’t know if FOX is going to do to Dollhouse what it did to Joss Whedon’s previous show (though from what I’ve read, the chances are 50-50), but one thing’s for sure: the death of Dollhouse isn’t going to do much to stem the tide of Eliza Dushku’s career. Let’s face it, having a weekly show on network TV, even one as lowly rated as Dollhouse, has allowed Dushku to show off all kinds of sex appeal, not to mention a ton of magazine appearances where she’s wearing, shall we say, just enough to show off her tattoos. This one’s from TV Guide, and yes, it makes you want to see Dollhouse if you haven’t been watching.
Dollhouse returns this week with a new episode.

Joss Whedon wants you to know that there is a chance FOX won’t reach into his chest, pull out his heart, throw it to the ground, and stomp on it the way they did his ill-fated Firefly TV show. We’re talking about Dollhouse, of course, Whedon’s Eliza Dushku-starring action-adventure show which has Dushku playing an “active” who has her memory wiped and imprinted with a new personality every week in order to service rich men. Yeah, it’s basically every geek’s fantasy come true on a weekly basis, so what’s not to like about it? Apparently lots, because ratings for the show have been hard to come by.
Then again, it’s not as if FOX has really given the show a chance. Earlier this week at PaleyFest, which is some sort of TV shindig or some such, Whedon talked about the chances of his Dollhouse actually finishing up its first season and coming back for a second.

Speaking to a group of reporters, Joss Whedon speculates on Dollhouse’s future and my hopes of seeing Eliza Dushku on a weekly basis.
“[The chances are] not very good but in limbo,” Whedon said in a group interview Tuesday night in Hollywood, where he was sitting on a panel at the Paley Festival presentation for his Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. “Obviously our numbers are pretty soft, and there it is, but we live in hope. I’m really proud of the episodes that are coming out. More than that, I can’t really ask.”
Joss also talks about the missing 13th episode, a post apocalyptic storyline that may or may not even have anything to do with Dollhouse but perhaps was kind of a mini pilot. If Dollhouse goes, Joss will be back and hopefully with something a bit meatier.
Thanks Scifiwire.
