District 10 Starts Pre-Production, Avatar 2 Spoiler, and Mortal Engines is a Go

The boys at Market Saw have some great updates on some highly anticipated upcoming films, including two sequels and one original. Up first, James Cameron’s “Avatar 2″, which should make even more money than the first, if that’s even possible.

…and it doesn’t sound like it’s going to be a sequel to his breakout hit “District 9″. Variety currently has an article on Blomkamp getting a solid commitment from Media Rights Capital to begin work on his next movie, an untitled sci-fi film. If this was a sequel to “District 9″, they would probably have mentioned that up front, but they didn’t.

The film’s got people interested in sci-fi again (always a good thing), and that excitement has translated into box office success to the tune of a $37 million dollar opening weekend.
