A Pair of Slick Promo Trailers for Syfy Channel’s Defiance

Nix October 14, 2012

A couple of new TV spots for Syfy Channel’s latest sci-fi venture, “Defiance”. It looks very interesting, though isn’t that big, blue guy from “Prometheus”? But on steroids? Anyways, the people behind the show is going pretty ambitious with it. Games, web stuff, and TV show and all manner of nonsense. I’m not sure anyone will care if the show sucks, though, but we’ll see.

Nix July 5, 2012

Behind-the-Scenes Making-of Video for Syfy’s New Show Defiance

Nix May 22, 2012

Who says the Syfy channel doesn’t actually make sci-fi shows anymore? One of their upcoming new shows is called “Defiance”, an sci-fi series that’s being expanded beyond the TV world to encompass MMOs. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the show and beyond. Hopefully I won’t have to play the MMO to stay up to date on the show, and vice versa, cause that would really suck. I ain’t got time to be MMO’in, you know. Defiance is a visionary enterprise in collaboration with Trion Worlds, with the Syfy series and Trion’s multi-platform shooter MMO poised to debut simultaneously. Set in the near future, Defiance introduces a completely transformed planet Earth, inhabited by the human and alien survivors of a universal war. Forced to co-habitate, the disparate group struggles to build a new society among the devastation. The dramatic tapestry of the series and the intense action of the game will exist in a single universe where their… Continue Reading »

Syfy Channel Announces Some Honest-to-Goodness Sci-Fi Shows for 2012-2013

Nix April 26, 2012

With all the wrasslin’ and silly reality TV shows on their airwaves lately (and what looks like even more coming), it’s sometimes hard to believe the Syfy Channel used to be the SciFi Channel, and that they still have some decent sci-fi shows on their stable. There’s the goofy as hell “Warehouse 13″, the entertaining “Haven”, and the soon-to-be-gone “Eureka”. And oh yeah, “Alphas” is pretty damn awesome, too. But for 2012 and beyond, Syfy seems to be making a concerted effort to get back into the sci-fi TV business with a new slate of intriguing sounding shows among the slew of new Reality TV shows they’ll be introducing. Basically, for every slightly sci-fi-sounding show, we get at least two Reality TV shows. Sigh. Anyways, here are some titles we’re excited about that may or may not eventually make it to air. Remember, just because a network “develops” a show, commissions scripts, and even shoots a pilot for, it doesn’t… Continue Reading »

Rockne O’Bannon’s Other Show on the Syfy Channel is Casting

Nix March 9, 2012

No wonder ol Rockne has no time to try to re-launch “Farscape”. (Mind you, not that I think “Farscape” can ever be re-launched, but hey, hope springs eternal, right?). He’s got his sticky little fingers in not one, but two upcoming shows. The first is a teen-friendly drama on the CW called “Cult”, while the second is a full-blown sci-fi/Western (in the vein of “Firefly”, perhaps?) called “Defiance” on the Syfy Channel. “Defiance” has cast its two leads — Grant Bowler (above) and “Angel” alum Julie Benz. Here’s hoping this goes better than Benz’s last gig, “No Ordinary Family”, which didn’t survive past its first season. Set on a future Earth, Defiance is set in a world where humans and aliens live together on a planet ravaged by decades of war and transformed by alien terra-forming machines. It centers on Jeb Nolan (Bowler), the law-keeper in a bustling frontier boomtown that is one of the new world’s few oasis of… Continue Reading »
