Well slap me silly and call me Granny! We’ve heard rumors of a re-release of the “Dark City” DVD, a Director’s Cut that would add additional minutes and improved special effects, for a while now. Recently, the film’s writer David Goyer even talked about a theatrical re-release with the new version (read that here), but nothing concrete has ever appeared. Well it has, now, because Warner Home Video has just announced that the new Director’s Cut version will be going on sale on regular DVD and Blu-Ray on July 29, 2008!
RopeofSilicon.com has the news:
The film is going to have about 15 minutes of additional footage and all new special features. The original 1998 release ran 96 minutes and the director’s cut clocks in at 111 minutes.
And better versions of the DVD Cover art and promo sheet from DVDActive:

Say it’s so, David Goyer! Yes, it is, fans of “Dark City”, of which I count myself as one. A huge one, at that. I love this movie. I loved it when I first saw it in theaters in 1998, and I’ve only loved it more with each viewing. It is Alex Proyas’ best film to date (beating out even “The Crow”), and starred Rufus Sewell as a man with no memory and Jennifer Connelly as the absolutely gorgeous woman who loves him. Or does she? Plus, the Strangers. Wow, the Strangers. So what’s in store for the re-release? How about a limited theatrical run!
More:
While on the set of his upcoming film UNBORN, writer-director David Goyer updated us on the re-release of DARK CITY, which he wrote for Alex Proyas to direct. “It’s coming out fairly soon [and will] probably have limited theatrical, but Im not sure,” he explains, “I have seen almost all of it and I took part [...]
