Well slap me silly and call me Granny! We’ve heard rumors of a re-release of the “Dark City” DVD, a Director’s Cut that would add additional minutes and improved special effects, for a while now. Recently, the film’s writer David Goyer even talked about a theatrical re-release with the new version (read that here), but nothing concrete has ever appeared. Well it has, now, because Warner Home Video has just announced that the new Director’s Cut version will be going on sale on regular DVD and Blu-Ray on July 29, 2008!

Say it’s so, David Goyer! Yes, it is, fans of “Dark City”, of which I count myself as one. A huge one, at that. I love this movie. I loved it when I first saw it in theaters in 1998, and I’ve only loved it more with each viewing. It is Alex Proyas’ best film to date (beating out even “The Crow”), and starred Rufus Sewell as a man with no memory and Jennifer Connelly as the absolutely gorgeous woman who loves him. Or does she? Plus, the Strangers. Wow, the Strangers. So what’s in store for the re-release? How about a limited theatrical run!
