It’s got a great cast, with Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Sam Rockwell and Olivia Wilde. It has a pretty decent director in Jon Favreau (“Iron Man”) but just exactly what is this movie about anyway?
And so behold an official synopsis

The thing is, “Cowboys and Aliens” is kind of a really shitty comic book, so I’m very hopeful that it will turn out to be a better movie. With someone like Jon Favreau at the helm, it can’t help but be much, much better than the comic, right? One can only hope, anyway.
According to Variety, “The Last Airbender” star Noah Ringer has joined the cast of Jon Favreau’s aliens vs. cowboys and indians movie “Cowboys and Aliens”. There haven’t been a whole lot of details about the movie, based on the comic book of same name, but it is known that Ringer will be joining a cast that already includes Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford and Olivia Wilde.
This would be some juicy news indeed. “Cowboys And Aliens” is the Jon Favreau (“Iron Man”) directed movie written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof about the wild west and aliens that think we’d be easy pic-kens, partner.
Olivia Wilde, of House and the soon to be Sci-Fi Queen of TRON: Legacy, is about to play Ella, the chick lead in “Cowboys And Aliens” alongside Daniel Craig (A replacement for Robert Downey Jr.). Olivia was walking the carpet of the Independent Spirit Awards recently when MTV got their mitts on her. They quizzed her on how director Jon Favreau plans to get the “Cowboys And Aliens” graphic novel on screen in any way recognizable as a followable movie. We’ve got the video. Olivia looks lovely.
Crazy beautiful Olivia Wilde, currently seen each week in House and this Dec in a skin tight outfit on a lightbike in the new “TRON: Legacy”, has been added to the cast of “Cowboys And Aliens” alongside Daniel Craig, who recently replaced the exited Robert Downey Jr. In the way back, mid 1800′s to be specific, Aliens arrive in the wild west but find that we humans just need hot lead and gumption to overcome potential alien enslavement.
Well, this is a howdy-do. With Robert Downey Jr. having jumped ship on the Jon Favreau sci-fi/Western “Cowboys and Aliens”, the trades are saying James Bond himself, Daniel Craig, is now in negotiations to take over the role vacated by RDJ. That role is of a Wild West gunslinger named Zeke Jackson, who teams up with some local Apaches to resist some alien invaders intent on enslaving the Arizona populace. The film will be based on the comic book created by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg.
Robert Downey Jr. donning a cowboy hat and gunfighter’s rig fighting aliens in the Wild West would have been awesome on so many levels. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be. The LATimes reports that Downey has now left the Dreamsworks sci-fi action movie, which was set to reunite “Iron Man” director Jon Favreau with his star. Favreau will remain on the project as director, but Downey, who some speculate may be leaving “Cowboys and Aliens” for a fast-tracked “Sherlock Holmes” sequel, will not.
This July, Iron Man 1 and 2 director Jon Favreau and his star Robert Downey Jr. meet up again, this time to start punching film for “Cowboys And Aliens”, working from a script by Star Trek writers Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof that they adapted from Fred Van Lente and Andrew Foley’s graphic novel.
They’re still in the midst of their second “Iron Man” movie, but Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. have officially attached themselves as director and star, respectively, of the Dreamworks movie “Cowboys and Aliens”. Yeeeeeeeeehaw!!!
Downey has been attached to “Cowboys” since last year, but this is Favreau’s first publicly announced involvement in the project.
