Self-professed original “Battlestar Galactica” fan John Orloff will be scripting Bryan Singer’s “Battlestar Galactica” movie, the director’s feature film based on the original TV show, not the recent and critically acclaimed Ron Moor reboot. Orloff is a really big fan, too: I have wanted to write this movie since I was 12 years old, and built a Galactica model from scratch out of balsa wood, cardboard, old model parts and LEDs. I love BSG, and I would pass on the job rather than frak it up. Orloff is the writer of “Anonymous”, “Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole”, and “A Mighty Heart”. Along with Singer, another self-professed fan of the original show by Glen Larson, I think it’s safe to say that you won’t be getting a BSG reboot here, you’ll be getting a continuation of the ’70s show, for better or worst.

Or so says Bryan Singer to SFX Magazine. The director confirms that although his remake of “Excalibur” is dead in the water, he still plans to develop his version of BSG based on the ’70s TV show and not the gritty and need-to-take-a-shower-after-every-episode Ron Moore reboot. Yeah, unfortunately it is no longer going to happen. I was really enthused to do it. I’m a fan of John Boorman’s movie and it was my intention to get it going after Jack The Giant Killer was completed. The project was with Warner Bros and what happened is that another King Arthur project was brought to them during that time. Basically, it was just more ready to go into production than ours was. That is why our version of Excalibur ended up being negated. But, when that happened, it allowed me to go straight into developing Battlestar Galactica – which I think will be really exciting. Singer also talks about a little post-apocalyptic [...]

Well this should make a lot of our readers happy. The last time I posted about a “Battlestar Galactica” movie based on the old show (and not the Sci Fi Channel reboot) with original director Glen A. Larson attached, a lot of fans made their voices known that they would dig it. Now comes word that Bryan Singer may end up directing that relaunch. Via HitFix comes word that “Superman Returns” and “X-Men” director Bryan Singer is close to signing on with Universal to bring “Battlestar Galactica” back to the big screen as producer and director. This isn’t the first time Singer has circled the BSG universe. Way back in 2001, Singer was supposed to direct a BSG movie involving a Cylon sneak attack, but that movie was shelved after the terrorist attacks of 9/11, or what new BSG actor Edward James Olmos enigmatically referred to as “the 9/11 situation”. Now with Ron Moore’s rebooted Battlestar Galactica TV show having [...]

No, not the Sci Fi Channel reboot. Sorry, fans of depressing so-called sci-fi shows. We’re actually talking about the original Battlestar Galactica TV show, which according to IGN is currently moving towards an original theatrical movie over at Universal Pictures under the watchful eye of original creator Glen A. Larson, who will write and produce. Or at least, that’s the rumor. IGN has more: IGN Movies has learned that Universal Pictures is planning to turn the TV series Battlestar Galactica into a feature film with series creator Glen A. Larson being lined up to script and produce it. Universal has denied the rumor, but IGN is sure that they’re right, and points to a casting rumor they reported a full year before the studio finally officially announced it. So what do you think, BSG fans? You like the idea of the “old” show making it to theaters, or would you rather have the “new” one? Below: I gotta admit, the [...]
