“If one does what God does enough times, one will become as God is.” – Hannibal Lecktor, Manhunter
Fans, just like any other collective, are a fickle bunch. So passionate were fans of the original Battlestar Galactica that blood might have literally boiled when word spread in 2003 of a “re-imagined” version of the show in the works. Now, admittedly, this was rising out of the ashes just a couple of years after the promise of a continuation series, not to mention, that fans must still be burned over 20 years later by the quick-cash shitfest that was Galactica 1980 (a show so poor that it can neither be used or excused as a comparison). Obviously, many gave the show a chance and soon understood why it was getting the refreshing treatment it did. Flash forward 6 years later and as the critically acclaimed series is laid to rest, a prequel is set to carry the mantle; and just as it [...]

I’m not the biggest fan of the new Battlestar Galactica, but then again, I’m not old enough to be all that big a fan of the original incarnation of the show, either. So basically, yeah, I kinda like the fact that a sci-fi show is getting all this critical acclaim from the mainstream press, but oh boy, I sure wish it had been for something better, like say Babylon 5. But oh well. Caprica, the Battlestar Galactica prequel spin-off, is debuting on the Sci Fi Channel very soon, and here are some images from the show.
Prequel to “Battlestar Galactica” takes place 50 years before the series is set and follows the earlier evolution of the Cylon species. When the colonies were at peace, a breakthrough in robotics and artificial intelligence begets the first Cylon. Told from the perspective of two families, the Graystones and the more familiar Adamas, sci fi drama explores themes of corporate control, politics and the impact [...]

So you really, really wanna know how those rascally Cylons were created in the first place, and how they became the human hunting machines they currently are right now in Battlestar Galactica? Well guess what, you’re gonna find out, because the Sci Fi Channel has just given Ron Moore and company the greenlight for 20 hours of their BSG prequel show, Caprica. In industry parlance, the show has “gone to series”, which means the network liked enough of what they saw in the 2-hour pilot that Moore shot to go ahead with a full year’s worth of show.
That’s one reason, another could be that the Sci Fi Channel just doesn’t want to lose their prestige show, which BSG has become with mainstream critics falling all over themselves to heap praise on everything the show does. Why give that up? Look, I’m not saying the show doesn’t deserve some props, but the insane amount of praise it’s gotten borders on [...]

I have to admit, I’m really not looking forward to Ron Moore’s Battlestar Galatica prequel, Caprica. I just feel that it’s the same old stuff, rehashing what’s already been done, and one of the reasons why I just don’t like prequels in the first place. We’ve already seen what becomes of the characters, why would we want to see how they get there? It all just seems so anti-climactic to me when movies do it, and it’s the same when TV does it. Anyways, here’s your first look at Ron Moore’s Caprica TV prequel to Battlestar Galactica. Maybe you’ll like it better than I did.
Two families, the Graystones and the Adamas, live together on a peaceful planet known as Caprica, where a startling breakthrough in artificial intelligence brings about unforeseen consequences. A spin-off of the Sci Fi Channel series “Battlestar Galactica” set 50 years prior to the events of that show.
The show premieres on the Sci Fi Channel in December.

Someone has gotten their hands on a copy of the pilot script for Ron Moore’s Battlestar Galactica prequel, Caprica, about the creation and evolution of the Cylons. His verdict: it gave him chills. Which I think means the script was good, and he’s looking forward to more.
But hey, why don’t I let him do the telling. Here is an excerpt from the review. You can read the rest for yourself at Collider.com.
No spoilers here, but this film won’t ONLY show the roots of the Cylons (and their theistic beliefs). A more alert reader (or viewer when the time comes), one who wasn’t so wrapped up in the evolving story, may catch certain other clues a little earlier. It ends with a multi-zing of “oh” realizations and definitely leaves room for story growth.
As a BSGeek (I watched the most recent season in one sitting), I was happily satisfied – this work stands on its own two cybernetic legs. [...]

The Sci Fi Channel’s Battlestar Galactica prequel series Caprica keeps on rolling, with more casting news. The latest addition to the show is Polly Walker, who has joined the show’s two-hour premiere as Sister Clarice Willow, whose character is described as “the gracious, eloquent and duplicitous high priestess and headmistress of the Athena Academy, a private religious school.” Yup, sounds like Ron Moore, alright.
Speaking of BSG, Starbuck herself, Katee Sackhoff, will be broadening her horizons with a multi-arc stint on the FX show Nip/Tuck. She’ll play a doctor named Theodora “Teddy” Lowe on the show, and will appear in four episodes.
Over at the Sci Fi Channel’s other new series, Warehouse 13, Saul Rubinek has joined the cast as a Secret Service agent named Artie Nielsen, who is in charge of the warehouse where much of the film’s paranormal storylines will originate from.
Casting news from The Hollywood Reporter.

Wow, remember Eric Stoltz (pictured, left)? The kid from “Mask”? Well, he’s all grown up, and he’s joining the cast of the Sci Fi Channel’s Battlestar Galactica prequel spin-off show, Caprica. Stoltz will be joining a cast that already includes Esai Morales, fresh from Jericho’s second cancellation, and Paula Malcomson. Stoltz won’t be the lone addition, he’ll be joined by actress Alessandra Torresani (also known as Alessandra Toreson, pictured below), whose character is impteus for the creation of the Cylons by Stoltz’ scharacter.
The Hollywood Reporter has their roles:
Stoltz will play Daniel Graystone, a wealthy computer engineer who, after an emotionally crippling family tragedy, uses his technological wizardry to forever change the future of Caprica. Toressani plays Daniel’s daughter, Zoe.
Caprica is set approximately 50 years before the events of Battlestar Galactica, and follows the creation of the Cylons, eventually leading up to the first Cylon war.

Fresh from the cancelled-yet-again Jericho, Esai Morales has joined the cast of Ron Moore’ Caprica, the Battlestar Galactica prequel TV series. The cast already consists of yesterday’s addition, Paula Malcomson, who was cast as a surgeon and double agent. According to reports, Morales, whose previous credits also include NYPD Blue among others, will be playing Bill Adama’s dad.
The Hollywood Reporter has more on the casting and the character:
The project, from Universal Media Studios, is a prequel to the network’s “Battlestar Galactica.” Morales will play Joseph Adama, the father of William Adama (played in “Galactica” by Edward James Olmos), who one day will take command of the Battlestar Galactica.
Joseph is described as a deeply passionate man with a strong sense of justice — and someone you wouldn’t want as your enemy.
Caprica will premiere on the Sci Fi Channel as a 2-hour pilot.

Two casting notices for fans of sci-fi TV today (not particularly promising sci-fi, alas), both for shows from the Sci Fi Channel. The first involves the two leads of the channel’s X-Files knock-off Warehouse 13, which has cast Eddie McClintock and Joanne Kelly as the Mulder and Scully, respectively, of the show. Meanwhile, Ron Moore’s Battlestar Galactica prequel, Caprica, has also landed its leading lady in Paula Malcomson.
The Hollywood Reporter has the casting breakdowns:
“Warehouse,” from UMS, revolves around two FBI agents — by-the-book Myka (Kelly) and rule-bender Peter (McClintock) — who, after saving the life of the U.S. president, are relocated to Warehouse 13, a location that houses supernatural objects the government has collected over the centuries. The duo’s assignment is to retrieve missing objects and investigate reports of new ones.
Paula Malcomson has been cast as the female lead in “Caprica,” Sci Fi’s prequel to “Battlestar Galactica.” Malcomson (”Deadwood”) will play Amanda, a surgeon who works as a double agent.

So how did the Cylons come to be? That answer will be explored in the Sci Fi Channel’s TV show Caprica, the prequel to Battlestar Galactica, which ends is fourth season run later this year. After that, producer Ron Moore will be jumping onto Caprica, where we will discover the true history of the Cylons’ creation. The full details of how and why comes courtesy of E! Online, who broke the scoop. According to Kristin, the prequel wasn’t supposed to involve the ancestors of the current cast, but the producers changed their mind and put in the Adama family bloodline, perhaps as a way to anchor the prequel to the current BSG show. As you’d expect from Ron Moore, the sci-fi stuff is just an excuse to explore other ideas.

Wanna know more about what the Battlestar Galactica prequel TV series, Caprica? Well all you had to do was ask producers David Eick and Ronald D. Moore, who helmed BSG to the small screen and through its four-year run, and who will be concentrating on Caprica after BSG goes off the air after its fourth season. According to Eick, Caprica is like the movie “American Beauty”, while Moore went for the more soap opera-ish “Dallas”, which is no surprise since, well, isn’t pretty much everything about BSG incredibly soap opera-ish?
More:
“Caprica is a story that Ron Moore and I concocted with [co-executive producer] Remi Aubuchon, and we’re casting as we speak,” Moore said in an interview at SCI FI Channel’s upfront presentation to advertisers in New York on March 18. “I’m very excited about that.
The Sci Fi Channel has officially announced that it has greenlit a two-hour pilot for a possible Battlestar Galactica prequel TV series, to be called Caprica. (I’m just guessing, but they’ll probably back on the BSG name somewhere in the title later.) Caprica will be introduced to the public as a two-hour TV movie, that will also act as a backdoor pilot. If you don’t know what a “backdoor pilot” is, it’s pretty simple: if the movie does well, a series will be commissioned. If not, then they’ll cut their losses with a two-hour movie, without the expense of hiring cast/crew for a series.
More:
“Caprica,” which is set 50 years before the events in the departing “Battlestar,” will begin production in the spring. It hails from the “Battlestar” masterminds Ronald D. Moore and David Eick.
As for “Battlestar,” the series’ final-season premiere will debut online nine hours before it airs on TV.
