Principal photography is about to get underway in Shreveport Louisiana on the Sci-Fi alien invasion epic “Battle: Los Angeles” and it seems they have a full cast! Let us rejoice. Ne-Yo, Ramon Rodriguez, Taylor Handley, Cory Hardrict, Jadin Gould, Bryce Cass and Joey King are now alongside previously named recruits Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, Bridget Moynahan and Michael Pena.
Ne-Yo plays a corporal in the platoon. Rodriguez, Handley and Hardrict are members of the platoon fighting the invading aliens. Cass, Gould and King are kids trapped in a community center. (Description from ComingSoon)
Battle: Los Angeles tells the hopeless story of a marine (Aaron Eckhart) who must fight an alien force bent on the utter smushing of mankind or at least people living in Los Angeles. Michelle Rodriquez is in it so expect some extra ass kicking with some sassy banter. It’s all for the glory of Columbia Pictures. Battle: Los Angeles will impact theatres in Feb 2011. Thanks ComingSoon for the [...]

“Battle: Los Angeles”, starring Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, Michael Pena and Bridget Moynahan has scored a release date on Feb 18, 2011. This is a long way away. Real aliens could come down from the planet of the sharp toothed, razor clawed, raygun sporting mole people and actually invade us in the interim.
Aaron Eckhard (Dark Knight) plays a Marine staff sargent leading his men in street to street battle in, you guessed it, Los Angeles. I’m hoping for a Cloverfield sci-fi vibe. Man I loved Cloverfield. Chris Bertolini and Scott Silver wrote the script and Battle is being directed by Jonathan Liebesman. I’m not even sure anything has been filmed yet. It is listed as being in pre-production. Oh well, it’s good to plan your Sci-Fi viewing schedule nice and early. Thanks ComingSoon.

A tough-talking chick, a tall drink of a water ex-model, and some guy name Michael Pena. What do they have in common? They’ve all joined the cast of the Aaron Eckhart-fronted science fiction actioner “Battle: Los Angeles”, one of those movies that sounds so good if you’re a sci-fi fan that you immediately thought it had to be based on a videogame when you first heard about it. But nope, it’s an original script, and wouldn’t it be cool if they spun it off into a franchise that looks at other parts of the movie’s battle against the same alien invaders, but from the perspective of other cities? It will, of course, depend entirely on how “Los Angeles” does, box office-wise.
New castmembers Michelle Rodriguez, Michael Pena and Bridget Moynahan have enlisted in the Columbia Pictures movie, which is set to star Eckhart as a Marine platoon leader who must lead his men against alien invaders on the streets of Los [...]

Every script in Hollywood gets rewritten once or twice (or a dozen times) from the time the studio buys it and the final “cut” is yelled on the movie set, so it’s no surprise that Chris Bertolini’s original screenplay for “Battle: Los Angeles” is currently being rewritten by another scribe. I just hope they don’t change it TOO much.
Via THR:
Scott Silver has been hired to rewrite “Battle: Los Angeles” for Columbia.
The studio in April picked up Chris Bertolini’s original screenplay, about an alien invasion pulverizing its way across L.A. Original Films’ Ori Marmur and Columbia’s Sam Dickerman brought in the material for Original’s Neal Moritz to produce.
Aaron Eckhart is attached to star as a Marine platoon commander in the action film, with Jonathan Liebesman (”The Killing Room”) attached to direct.
You would have to HATE sci-fi to think the premise as mentioned above isn’t totally cool. In which case, you’re reading the wrong site, because there’s absolutely nothing about “Battle: Los [...]

Holy cow. Are you serious? Aaron Eckhart, ol Two-Face himself, is going to star in the sci-fi movie “Battle: Los Angeles”? Oh hell yeah! Color me all kinds of excited about this. I was psyched when I heard the premise for “Battle”, but then that negative script review came out a while back and it brought me down a bit. Okay, not a bit, but a LOT. Anyways, this news that Aaron Eckhart will be fronting the movie just got me back up again — big time! You couldn’t ask for a better actor to lead a movie, even if this will, technically, be his first leading man role in a strictly “action” movie, although, doesn’t “The Dark Knight” qualify?
Anyways, here’s the news from THR:
Aaron Eckhart is attached to star in “Battle: Los Angeles,” a sci-fi actioner that Jonathan Liebesman is directing for Columbia. Neal Moritz and his Original Film are producing.

“Battle: Los Angeles” is definitely one of those movies I’m looking forward to, mostly because the idea behind it sounds so good, and there’s a lot of opportunity for sequels if the original does well. Can you imagine, “Battle: Dallas”, or “Battle: New York”? We would get to see the battle from different perspectives, while keeping the overall plot (alien invasion of Earth) in the background. The first movie, “Battle: Los Angeles” is supposed to be about a platoon of Marines fighting alien invaders on the streets of L.A.; they could make another movie about civilians in one city, cops in another, etc. Or hey, how about a specially train group of feds in another city? The possibilities of endless.
In any case, THR reports that a director has been hired for the project, which means it’s definitely moving forward at Columbia Pictures:
Jonathan Liebesman is in negotiations to direct “Battle: Los Angeles,” a sci-fi actioner Neal Moritz and his Original Films [...]

It’s been less than two weeks since I reported on an upcoming new sci-fi movie about aliens invading L.A., and U.S. soldiers having to fight them on the streets, then someone has located the script and has reviewed it. In a word, it sucks. Really, really sucks, apparently. Now I don’t know if I was really expecting a whole lot, but the review is incredibly negative. But on the plus side, the reviewer does give us more information on what the movie is about, and some of the main characters that we’ll be following in this, what I like to call, “Blackhawk War of the Worlds”.
From Latino Review, who reviewed the script, here’s the basic plot:
Some light shines down into the Pacific Ocean next to Los Angeles. At first, these streaks of light seem like a type of northern lights, but people realize they’re actually objects splashing down into the water – and they’re not just falling, they’re slowing down, [...]

Those damn alien invaders. Every time we beat them back, they keep giving that whole Earth invasion thing another try! This time the battleground is Los Angeles, where the sci-fi action movie “Battle: Los Angeles” will take place for Columbia Pictures. The film will follow a squad of Marines as they battle aliens on the streets of Los Angeles following an alien invasion. Wow. Now is that a great premise or is that a great premise? Maybe like a cross between “Black Hawk Down” and “Halo”, maybe? One can only hope.
More:
Columbia has preemptively picked up “Battle: Los Angeles,” a sci-fi spec from scribe Chris Bertolini, for Neal Moritz to produce via his Original Films banner.
The story follows one Marine platoon’s encounter in the battle against an alien invasion on the streets of Los Angeles.
“I love the idea, and I love the script. I like it all,” Moritz said. “We are going to be in production within six months. What’s attractive [...]
