Mini-Capsule Reviews: Aliens vs. Predator 2, Babylon A.D.

Sometimes you just don’t feel like reviewing the whole movie, thus the creation of the Mini-Capsule Reviews category. Up first, the sequel “Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem”, and the Vin Diesel mess — er, I mean, sci-fi action film — “Babylon A.D.”

Babylon A.D Reviews: The Worst Sci-fi Movie of All Time?

Here’s a theory: maybe director Mathieu Kassovitz knew his movie sucked (with or without FOX’s interference, as many reviews, even those based on his longer, UNinterfered with cut (which, according to Kassovitz himself, only runs about 15 minutes longer) seems to remark the same thing — that is, this thing is bad), which prompted him to go out and blast the movie in public, blaming it all on FOX. Really? The fact that your movie only has a .07% freshness rating at RottenTomatoes, as of this writing, is because FOX edited down your movie for pacing, Mathieu? I don’t know about that. In any case, here’s a round-up of reviews for the sci-fi actioner, which I am sad to report, I’m not going to pay money to see. This thing just sounds Godawful.

He’s Vin Diesel. Don’t Fuck With Him.

Maybe Vin Diesel should have showed this nice little animated video to the director of his “Babylon A.D.” before Mister Frenchie ran out and started telling everyone without earshot not to go see the movie. Could have been effective, who knows. Anyways, this is a nice little video someone put up on YouTube. I’m sure the guys behind “Babylon A.D.” had something to do with it, because I got an email pointing me to it. Or not.

Mathieu Kassovitz Savages Babylon A.D.

Well I certainly had high hopes for Vin Diesel’s “Babylon A.D.”, mostly because it’s been a while since we got a good ol fashion post-apocalyptic action adventure. That was before I read this interview with the film’s director, Mathieu Kassovitz, who calls the final cut of the film “pure violence and stupidity”. Ouch. He goes on, too! And no, the Fox studio isn’t going to be too happy with their French director. If this isn’t the last time the two work together, I’ll eat my hat, which will be kind of hard, as I don’t even wear a hat.

New Batch of Babylon A.D. Images

Vin Diesel’s “Babylon AD” hasn’t been getting a whole lot of publicity in the U.S., even though the film is scheduled to be released into theaters on August 29, 2008. There have been some TV commercials, but you get the feeling the film’s U.S. distributors doesn’t have all that much confidence that it can do the kind of business a big ad push would have helped it to achieve. But don’t let that stop you; the film looks like a blast, and we’ve just gotten a new batch of stills from the movie.

Babylon A.D. Russian Poster is Glitzy

Maybe I was mistaken after seeing the trailers for Vin Diesel’s upcoming “Babylon A.D.”, but it sure didn’t look like a glitzy sci-fi actioner to me. Well that’s probably what the powers that be are selling to the Russian people — a slick sci-fi movie where Vin Diesel saves the world with a cute girl in one arm. Or something like that. Anyways, here’s another international (Russian) poster for “Babylon A.D.” I think it’s okay, but nothing extraordinary.

English Trailer for Babylon A.D.

The last time we saw this very nice, action-packed trailer for Vin Diesel’s “Babylon A.D.” it was in French. This time it’s in English, and I have to admit, now that I know a little bit more about the character and the plot, the movie is sounding a little better. But of course, the action is the thing with a movie like this, which will probably be compared too much to the recent “Children of Men” for the film’s benefit. Let’s hope it can stand on its own.

French Teaser Trailer for Babylon A.D.

Another look at Vin Diesel’s “Babylon A.D.”, which is really shaping up to be more of an action movie than a sci-fi movie, but then again, it is Vin Diesel, so what did we expect? The teaser trailer is in French, so be forewarned if you don’t speak the language. Still, it’s a teaser for an action movie, so does it matter what language it comes in as? I think not.

Teaser Trailer for Vin Diesel’s Babylon A.D.

The first official teaser trailer for Vin Diesel’s sci-fi actioner “Babylon A.D.” has finally arrived online, with an introduction by director Mathieu Kassovitz to boot. The film stars Vin Diesel as Toorop, and is based on the novel by Maurice G. Dantec. It’s the kind of role that Vin Diesel was born to play — the laconic loner badass who will take your crap just long enough to shove your head up your ass. Very cool looking trailer, even if you don’t know French. You don’t have to know French to realize this thing has real potential.

Preview: Vin Diesel’s Sci-Fi Actioner Babylon A.D.

Vin Diesel’s latest stab at sci-fi greatness is the French actioner “Babylon A.D.”, which is being directed by “Gothika’s” Mathieu Kassovitz. The film has been in production for quite a while, and there were recent rumors that FOX was pressuring Kassovitz to cut out a good portion of the finished film for faster pacing, a charge that the studio has denied, and now seems to have backed away from. Here’s our preview of “Babylon A.D.”, including new movie images that were recently released by FOX.
