Apparently James Cameron and 20th Century Fox are not through trying to squeeze another buck out of you, because they’ve just announced that “Avatar” will be getting a Special Edition DVD sometime in November that will come with 16 more minutes of extra footage not previously seen in the first DVD release or the theatrical re-release. That will give “Avatar” a whopping 171 total minutes. So what other groovy new blue-tinted goodness will you “Avatar” freaks be getting in the Special Edition DVD’s extra 16 minutes? More “action sequences and narrative-deepening extensions of key scenes involving the blue-skinned Na’vi of Pandora and their human visitors”, apparently. Producer Jon Landau tells THR: We tried to look at what people have responded to in the film and give them more of that,. There’s a whole new scene that takes place in the (Na’vi) school, there’s more night bioluminescence, there’s new creatures, and there is a new action scene. The scenes don’t just [...]

Can’t get enough of James Cameron’s “Avatar”? Don’t worry, you’re not the only one. The film has already made, I believe, a few gazillion dollars at the theaters and on DVD, and I’m sure there’s nothing like watching the film in theaters with the big ol screen and such. Cameron and company probably realizes that, too, because they’re releasing a “Special Edition” version of the movie that comes complete with additional footage. Stateside “Avatar” fans can catch the movie when it’s re-released on August 27. Here are the re-release dates for you International folks: BELGIUM SEPTEMBER 8 2010 RUSSIA AUGUST 26 2010 SPAIN SEPTEMBER 17 2010 UK AUGUST 27 2010 AUSTRALIA AUGUST 26 2010 INDIA AUGUST 27 2010 JAPAN OCTOBER 16 2010 SOUTH KOREA SEPTEMBER 16 2010 MEXICO OCTOBER 15 2010 ARGENTINA SEPTEMBER 16 2010 The re-release trailer in case you missed it:

I guess having made a gazillion dollars means people really, really like watching you. Which is probably why, despite having cleaned up on DVD and Blu-ray, James Cameron and the boys at Twentieth Century Fox are re-releasing “Avatar” back into theaters as a “Special Edition” on August 27. Check out the trailer for the re-release. The re-release will appear only in Digital 3D and IMAX 3D theaters, and will contain about 8 minutes of never-before-seen footage from the movie. Obviously all you pervs out there are hoping for that Navi sex scene that actress Zoe Saldana claimed she shot with Sam Worthington. A little tail action, perhaps?

What’s that old saying? The rich gets richer… Apparently the same people who saw James Cameron’s “Avatar” more than once at the theaters still couldn’t get enough blue people, because Cameron’s “Avatar”, released on DVD and Blu-ray April 22nd, broke every single DVD and Blu-ray record in the history of DVD and Blu-ray. Or thereabouts. Here’s Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment letting everyone know about it in a press release: Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment announced today that James Cameron’s phenomenal epic AVATAR became the best selling Blu-ray of all time after just four days in stores, with an astonishing 2.7 million units sold in North America alone. AVATAR Blu-ray sales crushed the previous record of 2.5 million units. Retail sales of AVATAR Blu-ray and DVD Discs have exceeded 6.7 million units since its launch last Thursday, on pace to be the best selling title in recent history. The extraordinary initial sales for AVATAR are clearly a game changer for [...]

Pilgrims can even plug in their iPods (and brainstems?) so that the optical magic above with jive along with their playlists.
Obviously, the planning for “Avatar 2″ and 3 and etc, are well underway. Once you’ve hopped from tree to tree and run screaming through an alien jungle ( a rain forest is what it’s called only if you haven’t been in one) with speedy, tank like dinosaurs intent on pulverizing your most precious appendages, there’s really no point in belabouring the point. But James Cameron is a crafty and creative dude. He now says that instead of retreading that old wilderness camping trip from “Avatar 1″, next time we’ll be going deep into the seas of Pandora and perhaps elsewhere. In an interview with the L.A. Times: We created a broad canvas for the environment of film. That’s not just on Pandora, but throughout the Alpha Centauri AB system. And we expand out across that system and incorporate more into the story – not necessarily in the second film, but more toward a third film. I’ve already announced this, so [...]

The LATimes has a “what if” article that says, according to Cameron himself, before he gave the role to Sam Worthington in “Avatar”, he actually offered Jake Sully up to Matt Damon and Jake Gyllenhaal first, but both men turned him down. “I don’t think they ever had a problem with the CG, “ Cameron said. “Honestly, did I go out and try to woo them? No. I had my heart set on Sam. Maybe they sensed my lack of 100% commitment from me. Maybe it was the subject matter. This was a big ‘Star Wars’-type movie. They’re both serious actors.” Huh. An “Avatar” movie with Matt Damon or Jake Gyllenhaal? Hard to imagine now, but that’s how it usually is in Hollywood. I’m not a big fan of 3D, but the site is also pretty good for scoops about upcoming interesting films. For instance, they were all over James Cameron’s “Avatar” from the very beginning, and it looks like they’ve gotten a toehold on the sequel as well. On the upcoming “Avatar” sequel, a source has told them that the film will be made “within 4 years”. And the plot? AVATAR 2 will be full blown war. War is coming – Jim Cameron war that is! We know that Cameron and Landau are taking AVATAR sequels OFF of Pandora and I am working closely with my sources to determine exactly where they will take place. The idea, it seems, was always to leave Pandora for other parts of the universe, which would make sense. It’s another wonderful piece of work. It’s a bit less elaborate but very funny and bang on. Obviously these reviews of Mikes take some time to do. Hard to pound one of these puppies out the week after a screening. More please.

You may or may not have heard by now, but James Cameron’s “Avatar” is doing pretty good at that there box office. I believe it could prove profitable for the studio, so let’s all cross our fingers that ol Jimmy boy gets to eat tonight. Anyways, if you’ve read the “Avatar” script (it was put online as a free download, get it here), you read the beginning, which was set on Earth and featured Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) getting into a fight at a bar before being promptly tossed out on his ass. Well here’s an image from that deleted scene, featuring Jake on his back as he’s approached by two MIBs with a proposition. Via I09.
