So yes, as I’m sure you’ve heard, there’s a little indy motion picture coming out next month called “Avatar”. It apparently cost about the GNP of Canada to produce. In order to help ensure it’s success, the happy elves in the promotions dept of FOX are working feverishly, hammering out videos, images and probably a metric whack tonne of toys and other movies tie in’s.
Now my promise to you is that I won’t post everything I see. Just about everything I gander at “Avatar” related is pretty spiffy, but we must keep order here. If we don’t show restraint, who will? So here is a selection of nice videos released today or within the last little bit that demonstrate clearly that we are in for a mighty fine time at the local “IMAX”. Because we heart our highly advanced Sci-Fi fans from Japan, I will also include some Japanese language trailerage for their scrutiny. The second Japanese trailer looks like [...]

Seems that an “Avatar” trailer is on my television every time I look up from my obsession with Stephen King’s “Under The Dome”. Despite seeing these trailers a bizillion times it still seems like I see something new in them every time, so piled full of vision is James Cameron’s Magnum Opus. Of particular interest is the female Na’ Vi, Netytiri. I’m crushing. Here’s a new pic from USA Today of her blue kitty fineness. Go buy your IMAX tickets now because “Avatar” hits theatres Dec 18th.

Apparently whoever is cutting the trailers for James Cameron’s “Avatar” got word from high up at 20th Century Fox that the first few trailers were too gosh darn serious, what with all the military occupation, political backstabbing, planet razing, and alien genocide-attemptin’ going on. The result: this new trailer, which sells the movie as a kiddie adventure film, ala some shitty Disney kids movie. You can’t really blame them for hedging their bets. The budget for “Avatar” has soared somewhere into the $250-$350 million dollar range (trying to get a fix on it is impossible at this point, with special effects not even finished yet), but word is by the time the P&A costs are added in, “Avatar” is going to cost the studio somewhere in the $500 million dollar range. Say it with me, now: “What recession?”
Help the good guys kill the locals and rape their alien planet on December 18, 2009.

Good old Nix just posted the international trailer for you and I’ll add this cool behind the scenes view of how “Avatar” was first imagined and then brought to the screen.
James Cameron claims he had a dream where the planet, setting, characters and story came to him and I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt on that. I’m the trusting type. Less then two months to go before we see what James has been up to all these years. Can’t wait. Via Aintitcool.

All that buzz, all that Comic Con gushing, it all went away when the first trailer for James Cameron’s “Avatar” landed online three months ago with quite possibly the biggest THUD in modern cinema. Let’s face it, it was kind of underwhelming. It was overly cartoony and obviously CG and nothing about it screamed “best movie of the year”. So has that changed with this second trailer? Judge for yourself.
A band of humans are pitted in a battle against an alien planet’s indigenous population for the planet’s rare natural resources. A human soldier, brought to spy on the aliens, decides to switch loyalties and fight with the aliens instead.
Starring Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi, CCH Pounder, Stephen Lang, Joel Moore, Dileep Rao, Wes Studi, Laz Alonso, Peter Mensah, and directed by James Cameron.
The new trailer is playing in front of “Amelia” today, so the official trailer should be released online either later tonight or this [...]

I love going to movies but one of the things that always gets me is when I’m seeing a movie I want to watch but am not thrilled to see and a trailer that looks awesome and better than the movie I’m about to watch crashes my party.
This might be the case this weekend as “Avatar” is getting a juicy new trailer providing some serious competition for whatever film might be following it. Coming Soon says it’ll clock in at 3 minutes and 30 seconds of presumably awesome. Apparently this will be the trailer of note, showcasing more story elements, crazy action, etc. It will not be in 3D though from the looks of it. We won’t be getting the trailer ourselves for a few days after and I know it’ll be great but don’t even think of judging this movie based on a snapshot 2D view. This puppy was made for huge screen digital or IMAX.

James Cameron is a curmudgeonly old sod. He made parts of “Titanic” in the northern wastes of Canada here where I live and tales are still told of his, ah, uneven nature. Such a thing is confidence. It’s my belief that no great art is ever made, in any medium, if you listen to anyone elses opinion. It has to come free and unfiltered.
Now this is all good as long as the art is good. Michelangelo didn’t have to listen to Pope Julius the Second if he didn’t feel like it. If the art is bad, you can continue not to listen to other people’s opinions on the strength and character of your muse while you write poetry just for your cat or whatever your thing might be. In James Cameron’s world, he is right because he has always been right. He is therefore able to let his vision flow freely and without restraint. So far so good.
But I don’t [...]

Some nice new pics here from “Avatar” for you. Very pretty. I can’t see how people think this looks like a video game. Maybe they have graphics cards I’ve never seen before. Maybe Pixar made. Below you will see the full assemblage. On display is a very pretty blue female alien (with tail), crazy looking aerial combat and plain old humans looking at display screens with great consternation.
“Avatar” stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Peter Mensah, Laz Alonso, Wes Studi, Stephen Lang and Matt Gerald.
Thanks to ComingSoon for the pics. “Avatar” hits the big bright light on Dec 18th in 2d and 3d.

Is there anyone who WASN’T disappointed by the first trailer for Cameron’s “Avatar”? After all the hype, all the Comic Con reports, all the media falling to their knees after seeing the footage months earlier… Man, I expected more.
The trailer’s here in case you’re one of the 20 people in the world who still hasn’t seen it.
I have to admit, maybe it was my fault for expecting too much, but it’s not like the filmmakers, studio, and everyone involved in the damn thing didn’t go out of the way to promise me the moon, right? Instead, what we got was a less-than-pioneering-looking movie filled with obviously CG characters and surroundings.
Good to know I wasn’t the only one disappointed. Here’s Hitler’s take on the matter:

The floodgates are open now on new stuff from “Avatar”, coming soon to your local 3D loving theatre. Here we have a nice image of the fellas as a captive audience for the director, James Cameron, as he perhaps cues them on the proper terror face appropriate to what looks like a dropship scene.
Dropships and terror are of course a specialty of Mr. Cameron. Most of you will remember the famous dropship scene in Aliens. A classic moment. I think Avatar is going to be very good. Do yourself a favour and keep your expectations at a normal level. If we think something is going to be perfect it’ll only disappoint us. You’ll find this image and many more apparently in the upcoming issue of Empire.

James Cameron’s “Avatar” is easily the most heavily anticipated sci-fi movie in God knows how many years (or decades). And if you really dug the trailer for the movie, you’ll probably want this “Avatar” AMP suit maquette. It’s a scaled down version of the AMP suit built for the movie that is featured prominently in the trailer. It’ll be available by the second quarter of 2010 according to Sideshow Collectibles, and will cost you a whopping $1199.99. Basically, $1200.
Specs for the maquette:
Product Size: 30″ H (762mm) x 24″ W (609.6mm) x 24″ D (609.6mm)
Product Weight: 12.00 lbs (5.44 kg)
Box Size: 34.00″ H (863.6mm) x 28.00″ W (711.2mm) x 28.00″ L (711.2mm)

By now you’ve already seen the “Avatar” trailer (head over here if you missed it), so here are some choice shots from it.
AVATAR takes us to a spectacular new world beyond our imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on a journey of redemption and discovery, as he leads a heroic battle to save a civilization. The film was first conceived by Cameron 14 years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not yet exist. Now, after four years of actual production work, AVATAR delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film, disappears into the emotion of the characters and the sweep of the story.
Starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, Sigourney Weaver, and directed by James Cameron.
Get blue in the face December 18, 2009.

It’s UP kids. However, Apple Trailers, the host of our first hard look at Avatar’s greatness, is having an issue. [Edit] Nix, our fearless leader has now embedded the English version. Please click through and enjoy the blue.
Opens December 18, 2009.

New pictures from “Avatar” (actual pictures!) have been airdropped to the wide and waiting world to prepare us for the ridiculous awesomeness that will be the “Avatar” trailer hitting us sometime this morning. In evidence we have a shot of incoming vessels, perhaps hellbent in disturbing a virgin paradise, a dude that looks like Adam Clayton (Stephen Lang) from U2 looking buff and worried and Michelle Rodriquez, gazing off into her wonderful Sci-Fi future. Thanks ComingSoon.

Recently, I09 ambushed and held hostage Reuben Langdon, one of the motion capture actors that played all the blue running alien guys in “Avatar”, soon to grace your 3D Imax of choice. Making “Avatar” was a high tech affair, but while the end result will scream sophisticated nerd, the actual process involved in the filming was more Monty Python. As you will see in these excerpts from the interview held at the Wraith Of Con party at Comic-Con.
So do they run you on a treadmill or do you have to run back and forth across the room [when you run out of forest?
Not quite a treadmill, but yeah, we’re in a big room just running through sticks, or those pool foam, what do they call them? Those pool foam things.
Foam Noodles.
Foam noodles. They’re being bombarded by foam noodles.
So Avatar is really made up of tennis balls, foam noodles, sticks … And a tight motion capture suit.
And tennis balls.
Fantastic stuff. Let’s [...]

I’m not sure, looks to be a version with incomplete effects. I imagine James Cameron’s lawyers will be all over us to take it down but for now, enjoy it. I’m not focusing so well yet today. Coffee hasn’t quite worked it’s sweet, sweet love as of yet. Anyways, enjoy the Avatar magic! Blame Aintitcool for the early, in progress, look.

Hey, kids, excited to see that trailer for James Cameron’s sure-to-be-epic “Avatar” that everyone is talking about post-Comic Con? Unfortunately you probably won’t end up seeing that one, as the trailer Apple.com is advertising is being called a “teaser trailer”, which I suspect will run less than three minutes and not the 25 minutes of awesome footage that was shown at Comic Con.
Apple.com is currently counting down to the trailer’s debut. You can keep an eye on it here.
