Brian Austin Green Lantern?
Green Lantern (2010) Movie, Sci-Fi Movie News — By Nix on April 14, 2009
Filming on the live-action version of D.C. comics’ intergalactic superhero Green Lantern is set to roll very soon for a 2010 release from Warner Bros., but there hasn’t been any official word yet on who will be donning the green tights and slipping on that comfy, super powerful ring. Rumors have been circulating that Chris Pine (young Kirk in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek”) is up for the role, but if he has anything to do with it, former Beverly Hills 90210 turned cool dude with major geek cred (thanks to Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) Brian Austin Green would like his name to be added to the list of wannabe Green Lanterns.
Here’s a brief excerpt from Green’s interview with CBR on his desire to play the role:
CBR: Let’s get right to it, what’s going on with Green Lantern?
Brian Austin Green: Well, nothing’s going on right now. I’ve been sort of throwing myself into the mix and trying to get in to sit down with the producers and see what’s going on. I mean, from what I’ve heard and the response so far from what most people have heard, they’re planning on skewing younger with the character. I’ve heard somewhere in like the mid-twenties, which, being a Green Lantern fan, I don’t necessarily agree with. I’ve always kind of felt that Hal Jordan needs to be a man. He needs to be somebody who lives a little and experienced a lot. So right now I’m just sort of trying to throw my name in and make it something that they might consider. That’s about what I got.
Have you read script yet or talked with the producers?
No, I haven’t seen a script yet. I haven’t talked to producers but my agent and my manager have talked to producers and casting. It’s just a tough thing. I understand that I’m kind of a tough sell. I wouldn’t be what somebody would normally be looking for in a film like that. I mean I don’t have film draw. I haven’t been in anything that has gotten people into a movie theatre. So it would be a big risk for a company to take, I get it. But at the same time, sometimes those risks are the things that seem to work and pay off the most. Instead of just going for the names that seem to be drawing people into the theatres now.
You can read the rest over at CBR.
Basically, Green wants in, but at this point, it’s looking like a longshot. Then again, I hear Zachary Quinto was lobbying for the young Spock role in Abrams’ “Star Trek” before he got the role, and that turned out pretty well. There’s nothing like letting people know you want something, because if you don’t, then how will they know to even consider you?
Martin Campbell (”Casino Royale”) will be directing “Green Lantern” for Warner Bros, who is eyeing a 2010 release for the sure-to-be huge comic book movie.
