I know we have a lot of “Stargate” fans on the site, if all those endless railings against the new “Stargate Universe” show are any indication. But as big a “Stargate: Atlantis” fan as you may be, you’re probably not a big enough fan to shell out $70,000 to custom make a home theater to look like the “Atlantis” set, which is what Jacob Yarmuth of Louisville, Kentucky did. Besides his very own Stargate-inspired movie screen and surroundings, Yarmuth has a DVD changer than can hold up to 800 DVDs at the same time. Now how you would even keep track of 800 DVDs in one changer is beyond me.

The audio/video system performance more than matches the futuristic decor. Atlantic Technology’s THX series speakers pump out seven-channel sound and are accompanied by two Polk Audio IW155 in-wall subwoofers, while JVC’s impressive RS-1 D-ILA (Direct-drive Image Light Amplifier) produces smooth 1080p images. A second light projector is used to create the water scenes in the Stargate. The audio and video is governed by a Marantz SR8002 receiver, and that’s tied to a Control4 automation system.

All that’s fine and well if you’re a tech geek, but for my money the best part of the theater is the door that slides open when you wave your hand in front of the motion sensor. That’s just cool.
