Ben Browder to Bring Going Homer Mini-Series for Sci Fi Channel

Ben Browder isn’t just a smart ass capable of saving the world, he’s also a director and writer and now, producer. Browder tells Sci Fi Wire that he’s currently developing a mini-series called “Going Homer” that will be based on characters from Greek and Roman mythology. Besides producing it, Browder will also co-write the series with fellow Farscape alum Andrew Prowse.

The miniseries follows a modern American 12-year-old boy, named Homer Ulysses Jones, who can see Greek and Roman gods walking among the populace. Homer and his father run away together after a fierce custody battle and head to the home of their ancestors in Ithaca, N.Y.

Browder said the recently settled writers’ strike slowed the progress of the project. “Right now, at this moment, I’m ensconced in my household reworking the story,” he said. “We’re in our second draft, and it is a rather weighty document.”

Browder said he’s always been interested in science fiction and mythology. “When you start getting into Greek mythology, you see how much of it has formed our civilization,” he said. “You can’t throw a rock in the United States and not hit something that has classical architecture. And almost all of the mythological creatures in Harry Potter come from that mythology. It is prevalent all over.”

There is no cast or production date for the mini-series as yet, but if he’s looking for faces to fill out the cast, can I recommend his Farscape and Stargate SG1 co-star Claudia Black? Just a thought.
