Check out three new looks at Karl Urban and Olivia Thirlby on the set of Pete Travis’ “Dredd”. The 2000 AD-produced film is hoping to cleanse the taste of the Sylvester Stallone version from your mouth, but will it, or will it just add to the dreadful cinematic history of Dredd? (See what I did there?)

In a violent, futuristic city where the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner, a cop teams with a trainee to take down a gang that deals the reality-altering drug, SLO-MO.

The film stars Urban as Dredd, with Thirby as rookie Judge Cassandra Anderson, who, we’re told is a psychic. I guess that’ll help. She sure looks like a whelp of a girl to be running around arresting and “judging” bad guys.

The film, which also stars Lena Headey as the heavy, is due September 21, 2012. Sure wish they would release a trailer for this thing by now, though…

Very different from the childish Stallone-movie script and the baroque high-tech look of the comics; the Dredd film seems determined to work as a film on its own terms. Some interesting things going on with the 3D aspect as well…Cannot wait.

The uniform is real life and close to Ezquerra’s original design before other artists exaggerated it. Karl is lean and has an air of authority about him, due to his stance and facial expression. As for Anderson being a ‘whelp of a girl’. Seeing as she has Psi capabilities coming through, she’s in training at the Academy of Law and she carries a Lawgiver, I think she can more than hold her own with the perps!
