Bryan Singer’s Battlestar Galactica Movie is Still Alive
Or so says Bryan Singer to SFX Magazine. The director confirms that although his remake of “Excalibur” is dead in the water, he still plans to develop his version of BSG based on the ’70s TV show and not the gritty and need-to-take-a-shower-after-every-episode Ron Moore reboot.
First Poster for Star Wars: The Phantom Menace 3D
“Star Wars: The Phantom Menace” returns to theaters — this time in 3D!! — on February 10, 2012. But if you’re not into that whole fancy, newfangled 3D nonsense, you can still see it again in 2D, all remastered and whatnot. I’m assuming it promises a better looking copy than when the film was first released in 1999. Otherwise, what’s the point? George didn’t just go back and add in extra Stormtroopers or alien bugs to various scenes, did he? Hopefully not.
SyFy Renews Haven for Third Season
The Syfy Channel knows a good thing when it sees it (unless, of course, it’s recently canceled your favorite shows, in which case it, uh, does not?), which is why it’s renewed its original series “Haven” for a third season. The show’s second season ended on a very strong note, so this is definitely good news that Emily Rose and company will be back fighting more “troubled” folks for at least one more season.
Tom Cruise in Talks to Headline All You Need is Kill
As much as I’d love to see Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s “All You Need is Kill” on the big screen, I don’t think it’s going to happen for quite some time. It’ll be one of those movies that everyone who has read the book wants to make into a movie, and starts to work on it, but in the end, it gets lost in the shuffle of actors and directors and studio suits always moving around, which in Hollywood is pretty common. After all, how long did it take them to finally make “Watchmen”? Exactly.
Obama’s X-Files? Sort of.
A sci-fi drama with humor as if someone mixed up “The X-Files” with “The West Wing”? Sure, why not.
That’s the basic premise of “Ex-Comm”, a new TV show from feature film director Jon Favreau (“Cowboys and Aliens”) and Seth Green (“Robot Chicken”) that has landed at ABC, where the show has been greenlit for a pilot.
New Hunger Games District Banners Revealed
I know I shouldn’t be excited about “The Hunger Games”. I mean, it’s based on a young adult series of books, and I’m way too cool for things based on YA books. Right? Probably, but I don’t care. I kinda really want to see this thing. The fact that Gary Ross is directing is the cherry on the whatever it is cherries are put on top of to make them even better.
Lionsgate Goes on a Little Chaos Walking
Another day, another Hollywood studio snatches up another young adult sci-fi series with an eye towards turning it into a trilogy of movies. So what else is new?
The latest jackpot hopeful is Patrick Ness’ “Chaos Walking” trilogy of books, which Lionsgate have acquired with producer Doug Davison, the man responsible for “The Grudge” remake and “How to Train Your Dragon”.
A Russian Trailer and a New Clip from The Thing
A Russian trailer and a new clip from Matthijs van Heijningen Jr’s “The Thing” prequel, thawing out and killing unsuspecting Norwegians October 14, 2011. In any language, though, Mary Elizabeth Winstead is still hot. Plus, that clip really brings home that this prequel is, well, really, really like the original movie. I’ll leave it to you to decide if that’s a good or a bad thing.
Summit Opens The Door Into Area 52
Originally scheduled to be made into a movie way back in 2007 (wow, that was a while ago, huh? — well, in Internet time, anyway), Brian Haberlin’s “Area 52″ is closer to the big screen, with Summit Entertainment (the folks behind the “Twilight” movies) stepping up to pony the cash to make the film.
