It looks like John Carter’s Mars fighting days won’t be ready for the big screen by next year. Instead, Walt Disney has scheduled the Andrew Stanton-directed sci-fi actioner for June 8, 2012. The film will be released in Disney Digital 3D.
James Cameron recently updated MTV on the progress of his “Avatar” world, specifically the “Avatar” novel that he’s currently trying to finish, and where the “Avatar” movies currently stand.
“‘Avatar 2′… we’re still working on deals. We don’t start the movie until we get the deals worked out,” he said. “I’m making notes. I’m not sitting idle,” Cameron said. “But really, what I’m working on primarily is the novel.”
If all goes well and negotiations don’t stall, Cillian Murphy (“Inception”) will be joining Andrew Niccol’s sci-fi drama “I’m.mortal”.
The story is set in the not-too-distant future, when the aging gene has been switched off. To avoid overpopulation, time has become the currency and the way people pay for luxuries and necessities. The rich can live forever, and the rest try to negotiate for their immortality.
“Torchwood” creator Russell T. Davies has revealed some plot details, along with a new title, for the latest rebooted season of the show: in particular, the show will now be called “Torchwood: The New World”, and will introduce two new characters: a CIA agent and analyst that will act as an introduction for new viewers into the world of Torchwood.

In the sci-fi thriller Skyline, strange lights descend on the city of Los Angeles, drawing people outside like moths to a flame where an extraterrestrial force threatens to swallow the entire human population off the face of the Earth.
Director DJ Caruso, who currently has his hands full directing the sci-fi action movie “I am Number Four” for producer Michael Bay and Dreamworks, recently gave MTV an update on yet another sci-fi movie he has in development, “Dead Space”, based on the EA survival horror game set on a derelict ship in space.
Or had, anyway, since it sounds like the script is already finished and turned in.
In any case, I love me some “Forever War”, and so does Ridley Scott, who is currently trying to adapt the book into a movie. It’s going to be very interesting to see. And of course by “interesting” I mean “I hope he doesn’t FUBAR this thing up.”
In Hollywoodland, MGM is the movie studio that no one wants to be like — a studio with a ton of big-name, profitable franchises (the “Lord of the Rings” films, the James Bond movies), but due to a variety of factors (stupidity, incompetence, etc), has nearly run itself into the ground.
