“Smallville’s” 2-hour movie “Absolute Justice” premieres next month on February 5, 2010, but until then here’s another 30-second TV spot. This is actually the first promo that I’ve seen that shows off the Justice Society of America characters, including a couple of very juicy shots of “Stargate’s” Michael Shanks as Hawkman. The JSA Hawkman, apparently, talks to his mace. Huh.

Justice League Crisis on Two Earths Action-tastic Clip
This is basically what every comic book geek lives for — superpowered people going at it full-speed ahead. Check out one action-packed clip from DC’s upcoming “Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths” direct-to-DVD movie. One hopes the rest of the movie will be just as action-packed. This is animation, after all, the possibilities for superpowered fights are endless and only limited by the imagination of the writers.
First Look at Tron 2′s Yellow Light Cycle, Kosinki Interview
“Tron 2″ director Joseph Kosinski took time out from putting the finishing touches on the visual effects for the sure-to-be effects heavy sequel to talk to the blokes over at MTV, and brought along a fresh look at the yellow lightcycle from the movie to boot. That pic below. According to Kosinki, the 3D aspect will only take place in the Tron world. Yah! More comfortable glasses to wear for two hours!
Sony to Adapt Jeff Somers’ The Electric Church
Never heard of Jeff Somers or his novel “The Electric Church”, but the premise of the techno-thriller sounds pretty decent. Sony Pictures has acquired movie rights to Somers’ three novels in the series, and has hired screenwriter Trevor Sands to turn the first one, “The Electric Church”, into a movie. If the name Trevor Sands sounds familiar, that’s probably because he recently finished adapting the “Hyperion” novels for Warner Bros., with Scott Derrickson (“The Earth Stood Still”) attached to direct.
Smallville Absolute Justice Promo Video and Poster
Okay, I gotta admit, this gave me tingles, and I’m not even the biggest fan of the CW’s “Smallville”. More often than not, the show always seems to be treading water to me, never really going anywhere and just going round and round until everyone gets too old to pretend anymore and move on to bigger and better things. But I gotta say, this short promo video for the “Smallville: Absolute Justice” movie looks very well put together. I also dig the poster they’ve whipped up. I just hope the Justice Society guys don’t prove as useless as Green Arrow. Seriously, that guy is awful in a fight, at least in the couple of times I’ve seen him in action on the show. Michael Shanks as Hawkman looks pretty goofy in his costume, but then again so does Doctor Fate. I guess it’s the whole clashing of “classic” and “modern” the movie is going for. It works, kinda.
James Cameron is King of the World … Except in China
He’s the director of the biggest movie hit of all time, and he’s about to follow that up with, well, the biggest movie hit of all time (again), but that’s not gonna cut it in China. Never one to be shy about exerting their muscle and showing some homegrown love, the Chinese government has decided to yank “Avatar” from 1,628 2D screens this week in favor of the Chow Yun Fat biopic “Confucius”. The reasons? A little bit of this and a little bit of that. Mostly, it’s China, baby.
D.J. Caruso to Direct the Michael Bay-Produced I am Number Four
Number Four has gotten himself a director, and it’s D.J. Caruso, the man behind “Disturbia” and “Eagle Eye”, both starring Shia LaBeouf, which makes you wonder if Dreamworks is looking at nabbing LaBeouf for the starring role as well. Just wondering. The movie will be based on the young-adult science fiction book by James Frey and Joby Hughes, and is the first installment in a six-novel series. Michael Bay has been attached to the film from the very beginning, and for a time it seemed like he might also direct. With “Transformers 3″ gearing up, that apparently proved impossible, and so the directing duties have now gone to Caruso.
Summit Developing a Push TV Series
You probably missed it when it premiered last year, but Paul McGuigan’s “Push” was one of those movies you were either sold on purely on the basis of hearing its premise, or you just didn’t give a flying frig. I happen to love the idea of a movie about people with psychic abilities, sort of like “The X-Men” if all the superheroes were selfish and didn’t really give a damn about saving the world, and minus all the silly costumes. Well if you were a fan of the movie, as I was, you’re gonna love this news: Summit Entertainment, which released the film in 2009, has just announced that they are developing a TV show based on the movie.
Fox is Developing an American Version of Torchwood, Possibly Starring John Barrowman
Well this is interesting. I dig the BBC’s “Torchwood”, the “Doctor Who” spin-off show whenever I’ve stumbled across it, which unfortunately isn’t all that often. But I have liked what I’ve seen, and John Barrowman is aces as the show’s lead, and I’ve dug him since his “Doctor Who” days. Then again, maybe it’s just the whole “hey, that guy’s got an American accent!” on a very British show like “Who” that endeared him to me. News from THR is that Fox TV is currently developing an American version of Barrowman’s “Torchwood” as a backdoor pilot.
Leo Packs Heat in a New Inception Photo
The LATimes has a quickie preview of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming “Inception” and was nice enough to also include a brand spanking new pic from the movie. Here’s a little of what Nolan had to say about the film, and the pic after that.

Predators Set Pics Reveal Predators, Adrien Brody, and Some Russian Guy
Wanna see what the “Predators” set looks like? Wonder no more. Someone snapped some pics from the set and uploaded them to the AvPGalaxy Forums. Presented and accounted for are some Predators (they don’t look especially “super” to me, but maybe they’re foot soldier types), a look at the Predator homeworld where the action will be taking place, star Adrian Brody in his Army fatigues, Walton Goggins, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, and Oleg Taktaro. More pics here.
DVD Giveaway: Farscape Mega Set
You don’t have to be a fan of “Farscape” to want this DVD mega set, but it sure helps. In order to enter to win, you have to be an astronaut, or at least a Peacekeeper — just kidding. Head on below for the details.
James Bond to Play Cowboys and Aliens?
Well, this is a howdy-do. With Robert Downey Jr. having jumped ship on the Jon Favreau sci-fi/Western “Cowboys and Aliens”, the trades are saying James Bond himself, Daniel Craig, is now in negotiations to take over the role vacated by RDJ. That role is of a Wild West gunslinger named Zeke Jackson, who teams up with some local Apaches to resist some alien invaders intent on enslaving the Arizona populace. The film will be based on the comic book created by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg.
No Playing Cowboys and Aliens for Robert Downey Jr. After All
Robert Downey Jr. donning a cowboy hat and gunfighter’s rig fighting aliens in the Wild West would have been awesome on so many levels. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be. The LATimes reports that Downey has now left the Dreamsworks sci-fi action movie, which was set to reunite “Iron Man” director Jon Favreau with his star. Favreau will remain on the project as director, but Downey, who some speculate may be leaving “Cowboys and Aliens” for a fast-tracked “Sherlock Holmes” sequel, will not.
