The guys over at Entertainment Weekly likes making lists, so sooner or later they would stumble across the Top 25 Sci-Fi of the last 25 Years, including movies, TV shows, and other sci-fi moments. As with all lists, this one is pretty arbitrary, and I don’t actually agree with a whole lot of them. For instance, “Galaxy Quest” at #24? I wouldn’t put “Quest” on the list at all; it’s a goofy comedy, not real sci-fi. And Lucas “Star Wars: Clone Wars” at #20? Seriously?

In case you haven’t heard, but “Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation” wasn’t the last troop action you’re going to get, because part three, “Marauders”, is currently in production with Casper Van Dien and Jolene Blalock. Van Dien, of course, was in the original “Starship Troopers”, and reprises his Johnny Rico character from the 1997 movie. Here’s are some images from the upcoming sci-fi actioner.

Canadian actress Lexa Doig started life in the sci-fi universe on the TV show Tekwar, playing “Cowgirl”, before moving on to bigger roles on Andromeda, Earth: Final Conflict, and more recently, a season-long stint on Stargate: SG-1. She’s also found herself in the movies, but even then she couldn’t escape the sci-fi universe completely, starring as the female lead in the “Friday the 13th” sequel, “Jason X”, which was, of course, set in space.

If Jennifer Garner wants to do a cameo in your movie as a Klingon, wrinkly, prune forehead and all, why would you say no? That’s the question that has to be asked of J.J. Abrams, the mastermind behind the upcoming Trek 11, and former boss of Garner during their Felicity and Alias days. In an interview with MTV, Garner jokingly pleads for a cameo as a Klingon in Trek 11. Or is she? (Jokingly, I mean.)

You know, I’m such a big fan of Katee Sackhoff. Which is really odd, because when I first saw her on BSG, I wasn’t such a big fan at all. Then, her character just grew on me. Or was it Katee Sackhoff who grew on me? Either way, she’s such a great gal, and was, bar none, the single best thing about the recently canceled Bionic Woman TV show. It’s too bad they didn’t give the show to her instead of a no-name Brit who can barely act, but oh well. Her latest is the horror sequel “White Noise 2: The Light”, which she co-stars with Firefly’s Nathan Fillion.

Is the world of science fiction, in the movies and on TV, out of ideas in the year 2008? Mark Harris over at Entertainment Weekly seems to think so. As evidence, he points to the films and TV shows with science fiction themes that are currently on the market: “I am Legend” with Will Smith, an adaptation of an old book, and the third such movie adaptation of said book; “Battlestar Galactica”, a drastic remake of an old TV show.

I didn’t really follow the Star Wars “Clone Wars” series when it aired on the Cartoon Network a few years back. The whole thing was intended to fill in missing pieces between the Star Wars prequels, and as I wasn’t all that big of a fan of the prequels, I didn’t really care to find out what happened in-between them. But that isn’t going to stop George Lucas from doing a running TV series based on the Clone Wars.

This teaser poster for James Cameron’s upcoming sci-fi epic “Avatar” showed up online mid-2007, but for one reason or another, I just never got around to posting it. So here it is — a picture someone snapped of the poster for “Avatar”. Hey, they don’t call it a “teaser” poster for nothing, you know. It does what it was designed to do — tease. The movie being 2 years off, it’s a miracle we’re getting anything now at all.

There is no surprise that the Powers That Be are gearing up a “Transformers 2″ with Michael Bay (excitedly) back behind the cameras. Why wouldn’t they? It was a major hit when it opened last year, and it’ll be an even bigger hit when the sequel finally gets released, either in 2009 or 2010. Word is, the latter is more likely.

What a weird piece of casting for you Star Trek fans out there: writer/director Tyler Perry, most famous for putting on make-up and playing a sassy, angry black woman, will be playing the head of Starfleet Academy in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Trek 11 reboot, or so says UGO.
