Assault Girls Trailer. It’s Like Dune, Except with Hot Japanese Chicks.

From Mamoru Oshii, the well-known and respected Japanese director of “Avalon” and the “Ghost in the Shell” franchise comes what I can only assume is a get-rich quick scheme to pay off a house note or two, ala “Assault Girls”. It’s like Frank Herbert’s “Dune”, except with Japanese chicks with assault rifles.

In the aftermath of global thermonuclear war, the Earth’s surface has been turned into a desert battlefield. Three beautiful female hunters: Gray (Meisa Kuroki), Lucifer (Rinko Kikuchi), and Colonel (Hinako Saeki) traverse the barren landscape armed with powerful assault rifles to fight a group of deadly sand-dwelling monsters called “sunakujira” (sand whales). When the the epic battle eventually seems to be coming to an end, the sparkle of muzzle flash dies down and assault ship flies overhead. Suddenly, a gigantic super mutation called “Madara Sunakujira” attacks.

The girls and their spiffy mega guns hit Japanese cinema December 19, 2009. For you non-Japanese folks in search of your daily cute Japanese girl in combat gear fix, you’ll just have to wait for the import DVD in 2010 or thereabouts.

Via Nippon Cinema.
