Army Battlefield Extraction Assist Robot Is Handy And Cute

As hard as I try to think up ways this robot could end up cornering me in my local Mall, relentlessly and doggedly fixed on reducing me to machine mulch while I smack it about the treads and servos with a tennis racket, it seems despite my paranoia, this particular droid may function in the service of humanity after all.

I mean, it has the head of a teddy bear and Battlefield Extraction Assist Robot stands for B.E.A.R. I mean come on. It can lift 500 pounds and can serve all kinds of functions including entertaining at your nephew’s birthday party.  B.E.A.R. is designed principally to haul stuck or wounded humans out of nasty places. It can also move hazardous stuff out of the way, where it’ll be less of a bother. Below is the video of it at work, getting stuff done.

Hurricane Bill has passed me by. The eye missed me by 50 miles and went on to smack senseless a more north easterly area. Best of luck to you further North Easterners. Thanks to the good nerds at Gizmodo for the heads up on B.E.A.R.
