Alfonso Cuaron’s “Children of Man” was a pretty slam-banging good piece of sci-fi, I have to admit, so I’m excited the Mexican director has decided to stay in the realm of sci-fi with his new movie, “Gravity”. Based on a script by Cuaron and his son Jonas, “Gravity” is a “Moon”-ish thriller about the sole surviving human member of a space mission who is desperately trying to return home to Earth and her daughter. NYMag’s Vulture blog has Angelina Jolie in line to play the sole survivor, and in doing so, Jolie has abandoned Universal’s “Wanted” sequel. The role would require a lot of lone time for Jolie, thus the comparison to Duncan Jones’ sleeper sci-fi hit “Moon”.
“Gravity” will be produced David Heyman and Legendary Pictures for Warner Bros.
Update: 2/27/10
Now EW says they’ve got it straight from Jolie’s people that she actually also passed on “Gravity” as well. WTF?
