AMC Books a Trip to Area 51
Nix July 30, 2012Last we heard on Gale Anne Hurd’s “Area 51″ adaptation, the uber action producer was looking for a home for the Annie Jacobsen book. Looks like she’s found it — at AMC, also home to Hurd’s “The Walking Dead”, AMC’s most popular TV series.
The cable network has now added “Area 51″ to its development slate, with plans to turn it into a weekly series set in the ’50 sand ’60s.
Published in May, Jacobsen’s book revolves around the famed military installation in the world that has never been acknowledged by the U.S. government and explores the myths about the area and those who believe that region is home to aliens, underground tunnel systems and nuclear facilities. Jacobsen interviewed 19 men who served on the base and additional servicemen who were employed there.
Todd E. Kessler will write the pilot script on the sci-fi drama, with Hurd and author Jacobsen producing.
If Hurd is smart, though, she’ll get this guy to consult on the show. Dude’s like an expert on aliens or sumthin’.
