Alien Road Trip with Shaun of the Dead Guys in Paul

It’s “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz” meets “E.T.”, minus the zombies and small-town police action, that is. Greg Mottola, director of “Adventureland” and “Superbad”, recently talked with MTV about his new movie, “Paul”, a comedy about an alien who is picked up by two British tourists trying to make their way to Comic Con. Hilarity, as they say, ensue.

The film will star Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, who are also writing the script, and goes something like this:

…two British tourists on a roadtrip across the U.S. to San Diego’s movie geek mecca Comic-Con, but along the way they run into a little diversion out of this world.

“They meet an alien. in the desert, in the middle of nowhere,” Motolla said carefully. “But that’s about all I can say.”

Mottola describe as a mix of talky road-trip story and alien comedy, “Because he’s an alien there are things that wouldn’t happen in a normal road trip, but portions of the film should feel very naturalistic, he just happens to be from another planet, no big deal.”

The alien will be done using CGI with an actor ala Goolum in “Lord of the Rings”.

“Paul” is next up for Mottola, with Universal producing.
