Can’t say it comes as a big surprise, but the news has struck via the cool kids at Shadowlocked that Ridley Scott is powering his prequel to his seminal “Alien”, in the big 3D. Now before you roll your eyes and call this whole 3D thing a fad, you better stop and just get used to it scooter, 3D rules and it’s here to stay.
“Star Wars” and “Alien” art director Roger Christian, practically glowing with Sci-Fi street cred, spoke to the Shadow guys about the upcoming Alien -1 and immediately spilled the 3D beans.
“Ridley’s doing the next Alien in 3D.”
There’s been a few “Alien” movies in the past few years that have sunk into the “B Movie” category I’m afraid. Asked if Ridley will set the ship straight again, Christian responded,
“I do. Ridley told me some of his ideas when we were here in Toronto. He has a very clear understanding of where this should go. They kind of stopped dead one of the greatest horror franchises there’s ever been, and it had legs to go on. So I’m hoping he’ll revive another three. The world certainly wants it, and the fans want it – everybody. “
Awesome. I have no doubt at all that Ridley will get it done. I am very curious about how he’ll approach the prequel idea though. What happens before the Nostromo answers that distress call? Pretty hard to call anything a prequel. Maybe just a parallel event. We’ll see.
