A Poster for Fritz Lang’s Metropolis Just Went for $1.2 Million

Damn. I gotta start collecting…

Well, it wasn’t just that ONE poster (believed to be one of only four in existence), but the poster for the 1927 Fritz Lang sci-fi classic was bundled with original posters for “King Kong”, “The Invisible Man”, “Arsenic and Old Lace”, and get this — the original painting of Elvis Presley used in the “Jailhouse Rock” poster.

Ralph DeLuca won the bidding, held at auction in bankruptcy proceedings by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Los Angeles yesterday.

So who else besides DeLuca now owns an original copy of the “Metropolis” poster? The Museum of Modern Art and the Austrian National Library museum have a copy each, while the third is believed to belong to … Leonardo DiCaprio. Hey, rich Hollywood playboy, what else is he gonna do with his money? You can only bang so many supermodels, after all…
