30-Second Teaser Trailer for the New Buck Rogers Web Series

I’m not a big fan of Buck Rogers or anything, or at least, I really don’t know his history. But I am a pretty big fan of the old Gil Gerard TV show “Buck Rogers in the 25th Century” when it ran for a few years in the late ’70s and early ’80s. That show was pretty cool, and I loved it as a child. (Or maybe it was all about Erin Gray? Could be, could be…) But it apparently diverted quite a bit from the original source material, which isn’t a surprise. Hard to be faithful when you’ve got a lot of episodes to fill up for a given TV year. In any case, someone name James Cawley is bringing the property back to its roots with a new series of web episodes. Check out a teaser trailer for it below.

Via Trek Movie:

James Cawley and his Cawley Entertainment Company plan to do with Buck Rogers, what he has done for Star Trek, and bring it to the web with a regular series of new episodes. However, this time it will not be another ‘fan film,’ but a fully licensed show made with professionals, both in front of, and behind the camera. The plan as of now is to start Internet streaming advertising-supported episodes of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century in the Fall of 2010.

What do you think? Look good? To be honest, I’m not sure there’s an audience for this type of nostalgic properties. The Sci Fi Channel tried something similar with their take on Flash Gordon a year ago, and it failed spectacularly. Of course, that show was pretty much shit, and the whole contemporary take was groan-inducing. Heck, maybe going the faithful route is the key? We’ll see.

I don’t like the design of the space ship….i like Buck Rogers but i don’t think he was frozen in a space ship made of a pre WWI design?

“Buck” Rogers was a 20 year old kid home from WWI frozen in a mine cave in…not in a space ship at all. Buck, in fact, didn’t go to space until after two years of the comics. The original designs from the 30′s comics were very WWI in appearance, and this is an update on them.

Not my cup of tea at all, and I was also a huge fan of the 1970s series, going back to the original 1930s premise I think is a bad choice, most of that audience is already dead or very unlikely to fit the demographics of those watching streaming content on the internet.

    Ahhh Erin Gray <3 <3 <3

Im a huge fan of the 70s series, reboot the series like they did with BSG or V, bringing the franchise back to the 1930s version is a bad choise!!
    BTW
the trailer doesn’t do it for me, bring back the Glen A. Larson version to a new level, only then you wil get back the FANS!!!!

    thx
