Possible Predators Details From Robert Rodriguez

When Robert Rodriguez was a newbie writer, back in the day, he wrote a Predator story or concept for a writing assignment. Years later, Alex Young from 20th Century Fox was digging through the archives, desperate for the new and juicy when he stumbled upon Robert’s concept.

Eliza Dushku in TV Guide

You know, I don’t know if FOX is going to do to Dollhouse what it did to Joss Whedon’s previous show (though from what I’ve read, the chances are 50-50), but one thing’s for sure: the death of Dollhouse isn’t going to do much to stem the tide of Eliza Dushku’s career. Let’s face it, having a weekly show on network TV, even one as lowly rated as Dollhouse, has allowed Dushku to show off all kinds of sex appeal, not to mention a ton of magazine appearances where she’s wearing, shall we say, just enough to show off her tattoos. This one’s from TV Guide, and yes, it makes you want to see Dollhouse if you haven’t been watching.

Commercial Voice Synthesis Battle In Blade Runner

Both the new iPod shuffle and the Amazon Kindle 2 have pretty good voice synthesis built in. DVICE puts the two head to head in the opening scene of “Blade Runner” where Leon is being interviewed and tested by Holden for Replicantness. The Kindle 2 does an amazing job and Apple needs to play a bit of catch up. The scene works amazingly well I think with the deadpan delivery. Less can really be more.

Robert Rodriquez To Create Predator Reboot

Robert Rodriquez, director of many fine male oriented films such as “Desperado”, “Planet Terror” and “Sin City”, has announced his intention of rebooting the “Predator” series of films. The original Predator starred some beefy guy called Arnold Schwarzenegger and was really pretty good. Robert will be taking his reboot to 20th Century Fox. Thanks Aintitcool.

More Character Pics from Abrams’ Star Trek

Eight new images from J.J. Abrams’ upcoming “Star Trek” featuring the major characters that we’ve come to know and love, only younger, because the only thing Hollywood loves more than making money and giving themselves awards is de-aging their movies. You get the feeling that Hollywood’s preoccupation with prequels is simply because they hate growing old, and wish they could go back in time and do it all over again. But maybe I’m giving them too much credit. It’s probably just about the cash.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Joins Nolan’s Inception

The more I hear about Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi flick “Inception”, the more this movie just doesn’t make any sense to me. It’s being described as a thriller, as a sci-fi actioner, and is said to be set in “the architecture of the mind”, whatever that means. In any case, Joseph Gordon-Levitt has joined the cast, replacing James Franco, who apparently was in line to play Leonardo DiCaprio’s best friend, described as a “CEO-type”, but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.

Gillian Anderson vs. the New Doctor Who?

You may or may not have heard, but there is a new Doctor Who in town. Actor Matt Smith will be playing yet another version of the Time Lord, and one of his nemesis on the BBC show may be … Gillian Anderson? That’s according to the British The Telegraph newspaper, who says that the Doctor Who people are very keen to bring the former X-Files star onboard in a one-time appearance as The Rani, a renegade Time Lord. Er, Time Lady, I guess is the proper title.

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen Game Screenshots

The funny thing about the “Transformers” game is, um, how do you tell it apart from the movie? After all, aren’t they both using pretty much the same CG images? So aside from the humans, aren’t the game and the movie pretty much the same thing? Anyways. I’ve actually played the first “Transformers” game, and although thought it was mildly interesting, never played it a second time. It was okay, but not exactly addictive, even though I was a major fan of the movie. They are, of course, tying the sequel to a new game, so check out some screenshots of it below.

Brad Wright And Robert Cooper Talk StarGate: Universe

It’s not going to be long from now that we will get to see Robert Carlyle and the gang restart a new and darker StarGate franchise operation. Gateworld has a big interview where creators Brad Wright and Robert Cooper fill us in on what they are shooting for in Universe, it’s mood and how it will be different.

Your Beginner’s Guide To Essential Sci-Fi At The Movies

star_wars_movie_image_han__chewie_lukeI can see you out there, hovering over your keyboard, slack jawed, staring with squinty questioning eyes into your bright LCD screen, yearning for something new. Thus far your movie watching existence has been confined to the clinically brain dead genres of the romantic comedy, the buddy movie or films starring Ben Affleck. Something has to give.

Pandorum Info From The Inside

Io9 has an interview with Cung Le, a real life strike force champion (buttkicker) that plays Manh in the forthcoming scary stuff on a dark and haunted spaceship movie “Pandorum”. Cung Le dishes quite a lot of good info. Pandorum also stars Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster and is directed by Christian Alvart.

Asimov’s The End of Eternity Headed to Big Screen

Variety has news that Isaac Asimov’s 1955 novel “The End of Eternity” is headed for the big screen courtesy of director Kevin Macdonald, who last directed the political thriller “State of Play” and before that, the award-winning “The Last King of Scotland”. Macdonald will adapt and direct the novel for New Regency, but not before he finishes up his Roman drama “Eagle of the Ninth”.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger Wants In

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has decided that a Terminator movie just isn’t the same without him. Or at least it’s not the same without his image anyway. He has agreed to use the wonders of special effects technology to somewhere, somehow, have his face CGI-glued upon someone buff in the imminent “Terminator: Salvation”

Preview: French Sci-Fi Thriller Dante 01

The only French director I know of who has done anything sci-fi that was worth watching was Luc Besson when he came out with “The Fifth Element”. Granted, I’m not exactly privy to the in’s and out’s of French cinema, but the sci-fi thriller “Dante 01″ sure sounds, feels, and looks like nothing I’ve seen before. Check out our full preview of “Dante 01″, which is currently available for purchase or rent exclusively at Blockbusters.

Star Trek MMO Gameplay Video

Science fiction is coming to the MMO gamesphere in a big way this year. At odds will be Bioware’s likely great replacement for Star Wars Galaxies, Knights of the Old Republic and the Star Trek MMO. Craig Zinkievich from Cryptic Studios sat down with MSNBC for an interview, detailing how our wagon train in space will work out for us. Included is lots of new video of avatars, starships in battle and ablaze and plenty of spiffy starscapes, some with Borg! Thanks Io9.
