Space is scary enough, but what happens when you wake up onboard a ship, and there’s only one other guy next to you, and you’re both supposed to be on a mission, but neither one of you have any idea what that is? Worst yet, you eventually discover something that may have bad, bad implications for humankind. Yikes. That’s the premise for “Pandorum” a new sci-fi movie from Constantin Film to star Dennis Quaid (pictured, left) and Ben Foster (“3:10 to Yuma”, pictured below).
At last, we have the DVD cover art and specs for the second (and final?) Stargate made-for-DVD movie, “Continuum”. Amazon.com has the title listed as being available July 29, 2008, but you can pre-order your copy now. Ben Browder, Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge, and Claudia Black returns for a second go-around in a Stargate movie, this time they must stop Ba’al from changing history by traveling into the past. And if you saw the bootleg trailer that was posted a while ago, you also know that Richard Dean Anderson makes a guest appearance.
Seriously, what kind of idiot do you have to be, or have as your management, to allow negotiations to join an uber movie like “Transformers 2″ to “break down”? That’s exactly what happened with actor Jonah Hill, aka the fat kid sidekick with the curly hair, who was recently in talks to join Michael Bay’s massive sequel. What happened, did he demand more than his current status in Hollywood could afford?
If you didn’t get a chance to see the trailer for George Lucas’ “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” movie when someone bootleg it and put it on the net, then you’ll be able to catch it again on TV when it “premieres” across multiple Turner TV Networks on Thursday, May 8. This includes the channels Cartoon Network, TNT, TBS, CNN, and Boomerang. Or, you know, you could just scour the net and watch the bootleg version. I’m sure it’s still up there somewhere. George Lucas can’t find them all…
Fresh from the cancelled-yet-again Jericho, Esai Morales has joined the cast of Ron Moore’ Caprica, the Battlestar Galactica prequel TV series. The cast already consists of yesterday’s addition, Paula Malcomson, who was cast as a surgeon and double agent. According to reports, Morales, whose previous credits also include NYPD Blue among others, will be playing Bill Adama’s dad.
What exactly is “Sleep Dealer”? It’s a new science fiction movie from Mexico, directed by Alex Rivera from a script by David Riker. The film has been making waves on the festival circuit, thanks in part to its timely and politically motivated storyline. The film stars Leonor Varela, most well-known to genre fans from “Blade 2″ and other Hollywood movies, and Jacob Vargas, and uses its sci-fi content as an allegory for today’s political climate vis-a-vis the immigration issue and other topics.
I have to admit, I’m not exactly jumping on Oprah’s couch waiting to see “X-Files 2: I Want to Believe”. For one, that title. Ugh. “I want to Believe”? I still can’t believe they went with that title. For a movie that is already late in coming (I should have been made at least five years ago, if not sooner), nothing I’ve heard or seen about “X-Files 2″ has made me want to see this thing more, and I was a very big fan of the show from Day 1.
Two casting notices for fans of sci-fi TV today (not particularly promising sci-fi, alas), both for shows from the Sci Fi Channel. The first involves the two leads of the channel’s X-Files knock-off Warehouse 13, which has cast Eddie McClintock and Joanne Kelly as the Mulder and Scully, respectively, of the show. Meanwhile, Ron Moore’s Battlestar Galactica prequel, Caprica, has also landed its leading lady in Paula Malcomson.
A satellite crashes down in Utah. With it comes a previously unknown virus which is dubbed “Andromeda” and, as the tagline for this updated version of Michael Crichton says: “It’s a bad day to be human”.
At first glance, the idea behind the new sci-fi movie “The Ditch”, which Warner Bros. just bought, sounds a lot like “Fortress II” (or hey, even the first “Fortress”) with Christopher Lambert — a sci-fi movie about a sci-fi prison that someone has to break out of or die trying. This time around, the good guy isn’t a wrongly imprisoned con, but a guard who is forced to help a terrorist escape the prison or die trying.
