Okay, now you gotta admit, something is definitely going on with “Transformers 2″. A few days ago, the Decepticon Barricade, in police cruiser form, was spotted on the highway going somewhere in Los Angeles, and today, SuperheroHype has this picture of Optimus Prime, in big rig form, going through L.A. on a flatbed truck! Okay, so is “Transformers 2″ gearing up to shoot or what? It certainly appears that way. Or at least, something is going on with the sequel…

Now Optimus Prime is Spotted!
More BSG: Caprica Plot Details
So how did the Cylons come to be? That answer will be explored in the Sci Fi Channel’s TV show Caprica, the prequel to Battlestar Galactica, which ends is fourth season run later this year. After that, producer Ron Moore will be jumping onto Caprica, where we will discover the true history of the Cylons’ creation. The full details of how and why comes courtesy of E! Online, who broke the scoop. According to Kristin, the prequel wasn’t supposed to involve the ancestors of the current cast, but the producers changed their mind and put in the Adama family bloodline, perhaps as a way to anchor the prequel to the current BSG show. As you’d expect from Ron Moore, the sci-fi stuff is just an excuse to explore other ideas.
Michael Jai White to Join Surrogates
One of the best parts of the new Bruce Willis sci-fi movie “The Surrogates” is waiting to see how they’ll do it. The movie has an excellent premise: in the future, people use more handsome versions of themselves, via robot counterparts, to interact with each other. Then someone goes and gets killed and Willis, a cop, has to investigate. A few days ago, Radha Mitchell joined the cast as the female lead, and now word is that former “Spawn” star Michael Jai White (pictured, left) is in negotiations to join the cast as well.
Shekhar Kapur to Develop Larklight Movie
Now this is one movie you can slot in your, “Hmm, sounds like it could be a real hooten nanny”. It’s a movie called “Larklight” based on a novel by Philip Reeve that is currently being produced, and eventually directed, by Shekhar Kapur (pictured, left, “Elizabeth: The Golden Age”). Kapur is currently working on the expected $200-million dollar movie with co-writer Steven Knight (“Eastern Promises”) for Di Novi Pictures, who is producing for Warner Bros. More details about the movie below. Like I said, it has oodles of promised coolness.
Official X-Files 2 Teaser Poster
As it turns out, that teaser poster we posted a few days ago really was the official “X-Files 2″ teaser poster. Go figure. Chris Carter and the gang at “X-Files” has been on such a whirlwind tour of misinformation, releasing faux “leaked” pictures and what have you, that it’s impossible to know what’s real and what’s propaganda anymore. Frankly, I don’t think it helps the movie at all; seriously, guys, you’ve been out of the game for what, a decade now? And you come back and play hard to get? Eh. The poster again, below, just in case you missed it the first time around.
New Knight Rider is Officially Greenlit
I said it two months ago that after its better-than-expected performance in the ratings when it premiered with a two-hour movie, that the new Knight Rider was practically guaranteed a “go to series” order. Now NBC has made it official, announcing that they have greenlit the show about a talking car (voiced by Val Kilmer, of all people) for a full season. This is good news for fans who likes talking cars and miss the action shows from the ’80s, but not necessarily good news if you wanted quality programming from your TV. Then again, as long as it’s not yet another reality TV show, whose complaining?
Is Flash Gordon Cancelled or Not?
So is the Sci Fi Channel’s Flash Gordon cancelled or not? To be perfectly honest with you, while I didn’t think the show was all that bad for a Sci Fi Channel original show, it certainly wasn’t very good. It was way too camp, and the show’s Mongol setting were just downright cheesy. Now Sy Fy Portal thinks they know what’s happened to the show, even if the Sci Fi Channel won’t come out and say it: Yup, you guessed it, Flash Gordon has been cancelled. Or at least, that’s the going assumption.
Tom Cruise to Cameo in Star Trek 11?
This is, of course, just a rumor, but it’s fun to think what kind of jokes we could all come up with should Tom Cruise (pictured, left), a self-professed fan of the Star Trek franchise, and of Leonard Nimoy’s Spock character in particular (huh, wonder why that is?), actually joins the case in a brief, uncredited cameo, as he’s wont to do in other movies. MSNBC reports that Cruise, a friend of Trek 11 director J.J. Abrams, recently visited the Trek set in hopes of meeting Nimoy, but that he won’t be doing a cameo. Or at least, that’s what they want us to think.
Erica Cerra and Christopher Judge in Dark Swarm
In an interview with Sci Fi Wire, Erica Cerra (pictured, left), who co-stars as hot-to-trot deputy Jo Lupo in the Sci Fi Channel’s Eureka TV show, talks about her upcoming new movie, “Dark Swarm”, about survivors of Earth in the aftermath of a deadly alien attack. According to Cerra, the film will be very CGI heavy, and will utilize a lot of green screen work, ala “300″. The article doesn’t say if this is a Sci Fi Channel Original Movie, which would be really bad news if it was, because the Sci Fi Channel has yet to make an original movie that isn’t cheesy and just downright awful.
BSG Producer to Adapt Children of Men to TV
Alfonso Cuaron had his shot at P.D. James’ sci-fi novel “Children of Men”, and now Battlestar Galactica producer David Eick (fresh from the disaster that was the Bionic Woman) will take his turn: by adapting the novel into a TV series. Eick tells Sci Fi Wire that he is currently writing the pilot episode for the proposed series, and that the series will not be anything like the movie — i.e. no wars or race-against-time. In fact, it sounds like a whole ‘nother animal than “Children of Men” the movie, but then again, I have not read the novel, so I wouldn’t know whose vision is more faithful to James’. Details below.
Transformers 2 Gearing Up to Shoot? Maybe
The last time we heard about “Transformers 2″, we were told that Michael Bay was currently writing the script (don’t get all excited; Bay writes all his scripts, mostly outlines, and gives it to the real writers to fill in the blanks), and everyone was excited to get back to shooting. Then comes word from Film School Rejects, who posted pictures of the Decepticon Barricade (the police car) being towed somewhere in Los Angeles. Does this mean that “Transporter 2″ is gearing up for production? Well, probably not; mostly, I think someone was just towing the Barricade cars (there are more than one) somewhere.
Radha Mitchell Joins Bruce Willis in The Surrogates
According to ComingSoon.net, “Pitch Black” star Radha Mitchell (pictured, below) has joined the cast of Jonathan Mostow’s sci-fi thriller “The Surrogate”. She’s the second major casting after Bruce Willis, who had joined the project earlier. The movie, based on a sci-fi comic book series (the comic cover pictured, left), has a killer premise, and with Bruce Willis on the payroll, you can expect a budget big enough for Mostow to do everything he wants. And yes, Radha Mitchell ain’t bad, either.
Second X-Files 2 Bootleg Trailer, Paleyfest
“X-Files 2″ director Chris Carter was at the Paleyfest in Hollywood last night, where he showed off this second trailer for “The X-Files 2″, which is set to premiere along with “Iron Man” when it opens May 2nd, 2008. But hey, why wait that long? We have the bootleg trailer below. You see more of an interaction between Mulder and Scully (he goes to her for help, to join him on the hunt for whatever it is they’re hunting), saying, “I need you on this with me,” to which she replies, “That’s what scares me.” It does kinda look like they went on with their lives just fine after the series finale, and is only now coming back together.
Ridley Scott Eyeing Brave New World Movie
I will go ahead and admit it right now: when it comes to classic sci-fi literature, I’m hopelessly out of my league. Most of my sci-fi IQ dates to science fiction movies, and a few scattered sci-fi books here and there, but nothing on the scale that I could tell you what Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New World” was about off the top of my head. But apparently a lot of people know about it and love it, and with the rights to the film seemingly settled, it now appears as if the movie version is finally moving forward — with Ridley Scott eyeing the director’s chair and no other than Leonardo DiCaprio eyeing the leading role.
Katee Sackhoff Gets Sexy for EW
Wow, check out this video interview over at Entertainment Weekly with Katee Sackhoff, who plays Starbuck on the Sci Fi Channel’s uber depressing Battlestar Galactica. Now I’ve always found Sackhoff’s Starbuck to be very cool and hot in a bad girl sort of way, but I never really thought of her in the glamour model mode. That is, until this photoshoot for EW. The interview itself is about BSG, but she doesn’t really reveal much. Until EW actually releases those pictures they’re snapping of her, here’s what I could grab from the screen.
