I have to admit, I wasn’t all that captivated by the previous “Knowing” trailer, despite Alex Proyas’ name attached as director, and the lovely Rose Byrne playing a love interest. Nicolas Cage — eh. But this latest trailer for “Knowing” has my interest sufficiently piqued, especially since it introduces a new aspect of the storyline, featuring mysterious figures called “whisper people” that may or may not have something to do with the disasters that were predicted by a little girl in elementary school many years ago, and are now coming true.

New Knowing Trailer Reveals Whisper People
Robert Carlyle Cast as Male Lead in Stargate Universe
Um, say what? The male lead on the new Stargate show, Universe is a doctor name David Rush? Strange, I didn’t read about any David Rush on the recent Stargate Universe character casting sheet that went out a while back. But apparently it has to be true, because this news comes from trade paper The Hollywood Reporter, and why would they say he’s the male lead if he wasn’t? If true, this will probably be the first Stargate show where the male lead didn’t pack a P90.
The Day the Earth Stood Still Remake is So Good, Even Aliens will Love It
20th Century Fox, the studio behind this Friday’s “The Day The Earth Stood Still” remake is so sure about the awesomeness of their remake that they’re beaming the movie into outer space for aliens to see. No, I shit you not. They are beaming the movie out into outer space. Obviously this is a sad, sad publicity ploy for a movie that has been bashed up and down, side to side, and in and out by the fanboy base on the Internet for being, well, pandering and just downright sucky. I don’t think I’ve read a single decent review for this thing, which isn’t a surprise. It’s a totally unnecessary remake of a classic where the main storyline has been changed because Hollywood is currently so in love with itself for “battling” Global Warming that it’s back is sore from all the back slapping it’s doing.
Dean Devlin Talks Possible Stargate and Independence Day Sequels
While out doing the interview rounds for his new TNT TV show Leverage (check it out, it’s actually pretty decent), producer/writer Dean Devlin was asked about the future (if any) of two of his biggest hits, “Independence Day” (about an alien invasion) and “Stargate” (which was also kinda about an alien invasion). According to Devlin, while he and director Roland Emmerich (who directed both films) have some ideas for a Stargate sequel, it might not happen soon.
Dollhouse – Eliza Dushku = Syns?
Wait, isn’t there already a TV show about this, and isn’t it called Dollhouse? Well not exactly. While the premise may sound a tad familiar on first blush, they really aren’t. Whereas Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse has actual people (I’m assuming) who are kept in a place called the Dollhouse when they’re not being implanted with fake memories in order to execute their paid-for missions in the outside world, the premise of the new show Syns has “humanlike synthetic organisms” (Cylon-esque?) in a hospital when they’re not being used out in the real world. Okay, kinda sounds familiar, but Eliza Dushku isn’t involved in this one.
More Proof Sigourney Weaver Still Doesn’t “Get” the Aliens Franchise
Sigourney Weaver once famously declared that what the “Alien” franchise needed was no guns. This, I believe, was coming on the heels of James Cameron’s mega hit “Aliens”, which gave Ripley, as well as those too awesome for words space Marines, more guns then they could handle. Weaver got her wish in “Alien 3″ (directed by a then-fledgling David Fincher) — no guns. The film, needless to say, bombed like nothing that has ever bombed before. So the guns came back for part four — the less-than-successful (although I enjoyed it myself) “Alien: Resurrection”.
Sci-fi Humor: The Rude Awakening of Optimus Prime
Let’s face it, Optimus Prime is pretty old school. I mean, for God’s sake, he transforms into a big rig. You can’t get anymore traditional than that. Which is probably why when Optimus Prime gets killed and is rebuilt (which kinda happens a lot), chances are he won’t really “get” what’s happening around him, and is liable to clash with the newer model Transformers. Here are two videos cooked up by some “Transformers” fans that brings that point home.
Two More for Goyer’s Flash Forward
Wow, David Goyer’s Flash Forward is really moving forward (no pun intended) full steam now, especially with this news that Joseph Fiennes (the equally accomplished brother of Ralph Fiennes) is currently in negotiations to play the male lead on the show. If the T’s are crossed and the I’s dotted, Fiennes will be playing a formerly alcoholic FBI agent who must solve the mystery that grips the world after the population passes out for exactly 2 minutes and 17 seconds and sees a mysterious vision that changes their lives forever. John Cho, the new Sulu from J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek reboot, will also be joining the cast as Fiennes’ FBI partner.
Len Wiseman to Direct Atlantis Rising
If you had a big-budget sci-fi action movie that you needed a director for, you go to Michael Bay. Failing that, Len Wiseman ain’t such a bad choice, either. Wiseman is the director of the first two “Underworld” movies, and recently brought John Mclane out of retirement and back to the big screen with “Live Free or Die Hard”. The guy directs action movies. Big budget action movies. Which bodes well for the comic book-to-movie version of the independent series “Atlantis Rising”, which has the makings of a really big, spectacular sci-fi actioner with the right director attached.
Sci-Fi Trailer: Screamers 2 with Lance Henriksen and Gina Holden
They’re baaaaaaaaack. That’s right, those creepy metal crawlers that can burrow in the ground and assume human form are back for some more human flesh ripping. The victims this time: survivors and Marine types trapped on a desert alien planet. Okay, so there doesn’t seem to be any appearances by those really, really creepy “kid screamers” that just totally creeped me out to no end in the first “Screamers”, which is a real shame, but it does have the always great Lance Henriksen and the gorgeous Gina Holden of Flash Gordon fame.
Lost Season 5 Cast Promos
If the trailers I’m seeing for the fifth season of ABC’s Lost are any indication, apparently half of the castaways have made it back to land, while the other half are still trapped on the island. I think. Being that I don’t watch Lost, or indeed have seen a full episode even once, I couldn’t tell you what the fifth season will be about, or what’s happened to whom. But in case you wanted a hint, here are three new promos for the show’s upcoming Season 5. “Destiny Calls” seems to be the motto for the new season.
Knowing Teaser Trailer is About Numbers or Something
The boys over at Aint-it-Cool-News.com has premiered a new spanking teaser poster for Alex Proyas’ upcoming sci-fi thriller “Knowing”. Yes, while the poster probably has too much of a “War of the Worlds” vibe about it, it’s still a pretty cool looking teaser poster. The film stars Nicolas Cage (which you might have guessed by his huge name on top of the marquee) and Rose Byrne as two people who must stop an impending disaster that has been foretold decades in advance.
They Want to Remake They Live and The Thing
If Universal Studios and Strike Entertainment get their way, John Carpenter’s tale of alien invasion gone kooky, the Rowdy Roddy Piper starrer “They Live” will see the light of day once more — as a remake. Yup. A remake? Why even remake it in the first place? I have no idea, but apparently it just seems like the thing to do in creativity-bankrupt Hollywood nowadays. Unless, of course, the rights holder refuses to sell the remake rights, but of course there’s as much chance of that happening as of me going to Hollywood and becoming the next International sex symbol. And so — they’re remaking “They Live”. Shit.
Videos: Behind the Scenes of Ghost Hunters
To be honest with you, I’m kind of shocked that the Sci Fi Channel’s Ghost Hunters has gotten so big as it has. Mind you, I’ve always loved the show from the very beginning, even during its “awkward” stage, which every show has in the beginning. The show has really hit its strides now, and has spun off two spin-offs, an International version and an upcoming College-based version. So what about the original? Well, TV Guide’s InFANity show went behind the scenes to get the skinny on how the show started (a New York Times article) and answers the questions: Are they really still plumbers by day, ghost hunters by now? Are Steve’s tattoos real? Is Kris really hot in person?
Torchwood’s John Barrowman Bears his Fruits and Nuts on the BBC
Wow, I have to admit, I’ve heard of something like this happening on American radio/TV before, but usually it’s got the words “Howard Stern” somewhere in the title. I certainly didn’t think an organization as supposedly “legit” as the BBC would have a radio show where the host encouraged the celebrity guest to whip out his johnson for his female co-host to scream at. But lo and behold, it did happen, and John Barrowman of Torchwood and Doctor Who fame (and who as recently as a few months ago was rumored to be in the running for Steve Rogers in the upcoming Captain America movie) was the guy who did the whipping.
