Trailers for The Mutant Chronicles

Wow, what a CGI fest. I knew that Simon Hunter’s “The Mutant Chronicles” was going to be heavy on the CGI, but I have to admit, I didn’t think it would be THIS heavy with CGI. I don’t think they ever went outside a warehouse to shoot this thing. Mind you, not that that is necessarily a bad thing; they didn’t go outside for “Sin City”, either, and that turned out pretty good. Likewise with Zack Snyder’s “300″. But man, the CGI I’m seeing for “The Mutant Chronicles” seems to be struggling to not look completely cheesy. I guess we’ll have to see what the final product looks like.

Keanu Reeves as Klaatu and First Trailer!

Here’s your first look at Keanu Reeves as the alien Klaatu in the upcoming “The Day the Earth Stood Still” remake. You remember, the one where they’ve swapped Global Warming hysteria for Nuke Hysteria? Yeah, that one. And yes, it’s just a single picture of Reeves in a suit, which could be from anything, but according to site Film1.nl, it is indeed Reeves as Klaatu from the remake.

Warner Bros. is Hiding in Time with Adaptation

Not a day goes by that we don’t hear about another comic book property being optioned by a producer or production company to turn into a movie. Most of these never come to fruition. But when Warner Bros. takes a liking to your comic, and puts a writer on adapting it, yeah, it’s a pretty good chance that your movie is going to get made. The WB’s latest comic book purchase is the sci-fi actioner “Hiding in Time”, which has a pretty nifty premise, and not usually one you find in comic books.

Stargate’s Don S. Davis Dead at 65

Well this is sucky news. Actor Don S. Davis, most famous for his role as General George Hammond on the Stargate: SG1 TV series has passed away at the too-young age of 65. According to Don’s wife Ruby Fleming-Davis, Don died June 29 after suffering a heart attack. He had previously reduced much of his workload on SG1 in 2003 due to his health, but returned for some important episodes and is due back for the second (and possibly final) SG1 direct-to-DVD movie, “Stargate: Continuum”.

Script Review for Emmerich’s 2012 — SPOILERS

Let’s get one thing straight: no one really expected Roland Emmerich’s “2012″ to be an example of quality filmmaking, did they? I mean, come on, we’re talking about the guy behind “ID4″, “The Day After Tomorrow”, and “Godzilla” here. Dubious science, even by the low standards of movie technobabble, and outrageous stunts featuring people running away from massive fireballs are Roland Emmerich’s stock in trade. Why, without them, we wouldn’t have crazily entertaining movies like “ID4″ and “10,000 BC”! So someone has read the script for Emmerich’s “2012″, and it’s crap. Well duh. Isn’t all of Emmerich’s scripts kinda crappy? It’s what he does with it on the big screen that matters. I.e. explosions. Lots and lots of explosions.

New Transformers 2 Plot Details

To be honest with you, although I run a movie site and it’s my job to know as much as I can about a movie and report it to you guys, I kind of don’t want to know that much about Michael Bay’s upcoming “Transformers 2″. I loved the first one, and it’s killing me that I’m knowing way too much about the sequel. But anyways, a guy’s gotta do what a guy’s gotta do, so here are more details about TF2′s plot, including the current state of Sam and Mikaela’s relationship, and what’s Captain Lennox (aka Josh Duhamel) been up to.

Video: Two New Clips from X-Files 2

Yahoo! Movies is currently hosting an exclusive two-minute clip from “The X-Files: I Want to Believe” (seriously, just typing that subtitle makes me feel dumber), which they say is the opening scene from the movie. It doesn’t actually look like an opening scene — it has a bunch of FBI agents, led by Billy Connolly (playing a psychic) going up and down a frozen ice patch, while the scene is intercut with a woman is being stalked at her house, apparently at another time and place. Or something. Eh, who knows, Chris Carter and company are so desperate to hide every shred of info about their precious movie in the hopes of making it uber secret and thus more “in demand”, it borders on being desperate.

Supernatural: Katie Cassidy and Lauren Cohen Exorcised for Season 4

It looks like the WB’s Supernatural (aka the only show on that entire channel worth watching) is losing its two new babes. According to TV Guide, and confirmed by Supernatural creator Eric Kripke, both Katie Cassidy and Lauren Cohen, who were both introduced this year to add the babe factor to the show, have been exorcised. Cohen’s Bela character, of course, was dragged to hell (offscreen), and unlike Dean Winchester (also seen in Hell at the end of Season 3), she won’t be coming back. Meanwhile, Cassidy’s Ruby character was killed (also offscreen) by the evil Lilith demon, and a resurrection is not in the working, as Eric Kripke confirms. But don’t cry for her, Cassidy is already at work on a new Chris Carter (of “X-Files” fame) movie.

Stargate: Atlantis Season 5 Promos

For those keeping track of the constantly rotating cast on the Sci Fi Channel’s Stargate: Atlantis show, these new batch of S:A Season 5 promos won’t come as too much of a surprise. The biggest SPOILER is that there is clearly one character missing from the cast promos, and if you’ve been following up on news in the Stargate Universe, you probably already have it figured out. But in case you haven’t yet, I won’t spoil it for you, and tell you not to click on to see the promos, because you will find out.

New Amsterdam Star Heads over to Virtuality

One of the suckiest thing about the FOX network is that, unless a show is a bona fide hit, they’ll shut it down faster than you can say, “Stupid FOX, why don’t you at least give it a chance first?” Case in point: New Amsterdam, starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as an immortal cop. Sure, the show was probably too procedural, but overall it was a fresh take on an old, stale formula (the cop show), and deserved a chance. Well in any case, while Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is no longer on New Amsterdam, he has landed at another FOX sci-fi show, this time Virtuality. Oh damn, another FOX show? Crap.

Teaser Poster for The Day the Earth Stood Still Remake

Let’s face it, Hollywood’s attempt to turn the classic “The Day the Earth Stood Still” into another pointless, preachy movie about the environment has already turned off a lot of people. It’s bad enough that Keanu Reeves is expected to emote in this movie, but add to it the insulting nature of being preached to by a movie made on a bloated budget, by a community obsessed with its own excesses, and it almost makes you want to throw something at the screen. Having said that, here’s the first teaser poster for the movie, which claims a release date of December 2008, a year earlier than anyone had expected.

Plot: A remake of the 1951 classic sci-fi film of the same name, about an alien visitor (played by Keanu Reeves) and his giant robot counterpart, who visit Earth with a dire warning: stop their ravaging or the planet (re: global warming) or face the consequences. Jennifer Connelly plays one of the scientists called in to decipher the alien’s motivations.

Script Review for James Cameron’s Avatar Surfaces!

Blue-skinned, tall lanky aliens with no bones? Predators that throw their heads at you? And planet-raping fascist human interlopers? All those things, and more, in James Cameron’s upcoming sci-fi epic “Avatar”! And oh yeah, it’s all obviously an eco-friendly movie with a “message”, and according to the person who reviewed the 170-page “script” treatment (an admitted diehard environmentalist), that’s one of the script’s problems: It’s too preachy.

James Mangold to Mess with Time Travel in The Archive

Time travel is a tricky endeavor, and time traveling in movies are even trickier. But if done right, it can be downright great fun. James Mangold (pictured, left, directing in “Walk the Line”) is easily one of the best directors out there who you probably haven’t heard of before. He’s done pretty much every genre you can think of, from cop thrillers (“Copland”) to Westerns (“3:10 to Yuma”) to horror (“Identity”) to musicals (“Walk the Line”) and now he’s looking at sci-fi in “The Archive”, a time-travel movie for Universal Pictures.

Another Mutant Chronicles Poster

Put Thomas Jane in an action movie and I’m there with bells on. Yes, even “The Punisher”, as bad as it got at times, was still good simply because Jane has just the right combination of acting skills and physical believability for these type of roles. His latest is “The Mutant Chronicles”, and another poster for the movie has surfaced online over at the Raw Studios forum. Take a gander at it below.
