New Star Trek 11 Posters – First Character Images

After seeing that Federation insignia thingie for so long, we finally get an actual poster for J.J. Abrams’ rebooting of the Trek franchise — plus our first official looks at four of the movie’s main characters — Chris Pine as Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, and Eric Bana as evil Romulan badass Nero. Check out two versions of the poster below. By the way, is it me or does Chris Pine as Kirk looks, er, kind of evil? Hell, he looks even more evil than Bana’s Nero in these posters!

Elliot and Malthe to Star in Sci Fi Channel’s Mirabilis

From JAG to a knight on a far-away alien planet? Or something like that. Former JAG star David James Elliot has landed the starring role in an upcoming Sci Fi Channel original mini-series, called “Mirabilis”. He will be starring as a knight who is on a quest to avenge his murdered father, and the movie will co-star Natassia Malthe (“Elektra”) as a fellow knight who is more than just a fellow knight, if you know what I mean.

J. Michael Straczynski on the Future of Babylon 5

Of all the sci-fi people out there, you probably won’t find a more fan-friendly guy than J. Michael Straczynski. I think the creator of Babylon 5 knows that if not for the fans, B5 would have gone off the air long ago, and since then he’s been rewarding B5 loyalists by being loyal to us. Well now it looks like there might not be anymore B5 movies, shows, or games for a while, and in a letter to the fans at JMSNews, J. Michael Straczynski lays out his reasons why. And I have to say, I agree with him. I thought “The Lost Tales”, the last direct-to-DVD B5 movie, was very lackluster, and I’m a HUGE B5 fan.

Supernatural Season 4 Premiere Details

Dean lives! Well, what did you expect? Did you really think Eric Kripke and the WB were going to kill off Dean Winchester in Season 4 of their TV show? Oh come on. Without Dean, there would be no Supernatural. As good as Sam is, Dean makes the show in my book. So in the sci-fi edition of an upcoming TV Guide issue, Supernatural creator Eric Kripke reveals how the Season 4 premiere episode will open: with Dean having escaped Hell, it’s now 4 months later, and Dean has no memories at all of the previous 4 months, or his time in Hell. Good news for him, since, well, we all saw what happened to him at the end of last season, right?

Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008) Movie Review

A quick search on the Internet Movie Database shows that Jules Verne’s “Journey to the Center of the Earth” has been adapted for the screen (big and small) at least 10 times. There’s even a Filipino version! By Hollywood standards, this must not seem like overkill, because guess what? If you go to your local cinema, you can see the 11th version. But wait. The news gets better. If you’re lucky enough yours is one of the 954 cinemas showing it in 3-D. (The remaining 1,857 are not.)

First Look at Cameron’s Na’vi Alien in Avatar

Well, in silhouette form, anyway. It actually looks a lot like the last supposed “Avatar” alien we saw back in June 2007, which Cameron and the production have since debunked. I guess they were lying to us, because that design sure looks an awful lot like this latest one that has appeared online. Then again, who is to say that this recent design is actually one of the Na’vi aliens from “Avatar”? Anyways, head on below to see it.

Plot: From director J.J. Abrams (“Mission: Impossible III,” “Lost” and “Alias”) and screenwriters Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci (“TRANSFORMERS,” “MI: III”) comes a new vision of the greatest space adventure of all time, “Star Trek,” featuring a young, new crew venturing boldly where no man has gone before.

X-Files 2: I Want to Believe — SPOILERS?

Okay, I’m filing this one under, “Chris Carter really wants to get our goat, so he’s made this crap up just for that purpose”, and no one’s going to convince me otherwise. Besides the fact that the trailers and pictures I’ve seen from the movie, and I’ve seen tons, bears no resemblance to what happens here at all, the whole idea that Scully and Mulder have been involved for the last six years just reeks of fake. Then again, the person who claims to have seen the movie, and sent in this spoiler, did poo-poo the film’s serial killer plot, and would Carter really diss his own movie’s plot just to throw out some misinformation about Scully and Mulder? Hmm…

Babylon A.D. Russian Poster is Glitzy

Maybe I was mistaken after seeing the trailers for Vin Diesel’s upcoming “Babylon A.D.”, but it sure didn’t look like a glitzy sci-fi actioner to me. Well that’s probably what the powers that be are selling to the Russian people — a slick sci-fi movie where Vin Diesel saves the world with a cute girl in one arm. Or something like that. Anyways, here’s another international (Russian) poster for “Babylon A.D.” I think it’s okay, but nothing extraordinary.

Script Review for Ron Moore’s Caprica Pilot

Someone has gotten their hands on a copy of the pilot script for Ron Moore’s Battlestar Galactica prequel, Caprica, about the creation and evolution of the Cylons. His verdict: it gave him chills. Which I think means the script was good, and he’s looking forward to more.

Set Pictures from Bruce Willis’ The Surrogates

The first pictures from Bruce Willis’ sci-fi actioner “The Surrogates” has surfaced in, of all places, a local newspaper called The Milford Daily News. A mustached Willis is seen on set waiting for the crew to set up the shoot and, well, that’s pretty much it. This must be what it’s really like on a movie set — a lot of waiting and a few minutes of actually, you know, acting. Anyways, there aren’t a whole lot of reviewing photos here, but it is our first look at “The Surrogates”, so that’s good.

Sigourney Weaver Wants to Bring Back Ellen Ripley

Wow, can you believe that Sigourney Weaver is going to turn 60 in October? Ellen Ripley of “Alien”, “Aliens”, and the other two (that aren’t really worth mentioning) sequels fame? Yup, it’s true. And in an interview with OK! Magazine, Weaver is floating the idea of coming back as her most famous character, that of Ellen Ripley, in a fifth installment of the popular “Alien” franchise. And hey, why not? Harrison Ford is what, 120, and he’s back as Indiana Jones. Likewise with Rocky, Rambo, and John McClane.

Stargate: Continuum (2008) Movie Review

Here’s a shocker: Jack O’Neill dies in the first few minutes of “Stargate: Continuum”. Now wait a minute, before you Stargate fans get all mad at me, let me say this: “Continuum” is a time travel story, so yes, Jack O’Neill dying, as well as Teal’C and Vala vanishing into thin air in a cloud of black smoke, is no cause for concern. If we’ve learned one thing about the Stargate universe, it’s that death is not absolute. Heck, it wasn’t absolute even when the episode of the week didn’t involve time travel, so why should it be even close when the entire episode hinges on the team time traveling back into the past to set things right? (And anyways, Jack shows back up as his bewildered, Homer-loving self at the 30-minute mark anyhow. Well, okay, maybe not quite his old self, but close enough.)

Trailer for Alex Proyas’ Knowing

My enthusiasm for Alex Proyas’ “Knowing” didn’t exactly leap up there after seeing this first trailer for his upcoming movie “Knowing”, starring Nicolas Cage as a teacher who discovers that predictions made 50 years ago are coming true; worst, the predictions eventually run out, then what happens? The trailer is good, the kind of slick stuff Hollywood does well, and it certainly doesn’t showcase the brilliance that Alex Proyas showcased in “The Crow” and “Dark City”. Having said that, I’m still holding out hope that he’ll one day return to such greatness, and maybe “Knowing” is a step in the right direction. I don’t see it in the trailer, alas, but who knows, Cage never does good trailers, so that may be it…

8 New Images from X-Files 2: I Want to Believe

Instead of going on about how I still don’t like the subtitle for the “X-Files” movie sequel, I’m going to go ahead and skip the griping and move on to telling you that we have eight new images from the movie, most of them featuring Mulder all by his lonesome doing his investigation what-have-you. There’s also a picture of Scully apparently in front of some medical types, perhaps trying to get back to her roots (remember, she’s a doctor) post-Mulder and the X-Files wackiness? Who knows. Check out the new images below.
