Written and directed by Neil Marshall (“Dog Soldiers”), “Doomsday” is a sci-fi/post-apocalyptic tale set in the future. Or, at least, a futuristic version of the UK in 2007. A deadly virus. Millions dead. Great walls are built. Mutants. And Rhona Mitra and a crack team of commandos in action. What more could you ask for?

Heroes Leads Sci-Fi TV Ratings in 2007
Despite sagging ratings and what is almost universally considered a “sophmore slump”, NBC’s Heroes TV show lead in the ratings for 2007 among science-fiction/fantasy themed TV shows. Coming in second was Pushing Daisies, followed by the lackluster Bionic Woman and CBS’ vampire show Moonlight, which after a strong start, has fallen way below average in the ratings.
Stargate: The Ark of Truth (2008) Movie Review
“Stargate: The Ark of Truth” is the much-anticipated first of two Made-for-DVD movies that continues the adventures of the “Stargate: SG-1″ team, with “Stargate: Continuum” being the second movie. But first, a caveat: The workprint version that I am reviewing runs a little long and is not the final cut. If “Ark of Truth” is scheduled to go straight to DVD, including a run on the Sci Fi Channel, then my guess is that at least 10 minutes, give or take a few minutes, will be cut for final consumption, although I didn’t find the version to be overlong at all. Having said that, this version doesn’t appear to be missing any key scenes, save for a special effects shot here and there, but is otherwise complete.
Karl Urban Talks Trek 11
Among the casting of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek 11, the one I found a little suspect was Karl Urban, who will be playing a (younger) version of Dr. Leonard McCoy, the crotchety medicine man on the Enterprise. Urban seems too old for the role, but then again, I guess McCoy was always the oldest character on the show, wasn’t he? Now Urban has talked about his role on Trek 11 with Sci Fi Wire.
Sci-Fi Babe Spotlight: Amanda Tapping
Amanda Tapping didn’t become a household name just because she’s able to make the tough-as-nails soldier work alongside the brilliant scientist as Major Samantha Carter on Stargate: SG1 (and later, on Stargate: Atlantis). Oh no, Amanda Tapping made the character work because besides being very a talented actress, Amanda Tapping is also a major sci-fi babe.
9 Minute Video Recap of Lost Seasons 1 – 3
So, you haven’t been keeping up with your Lost TV episodes? Missed one or two episodes of Season 1, 2, or maybe Season 3? Or how about if you’re like me, and you haven’t been watching Lost at all? Well ABC has released a 9 minute video that recaps Lost Seasons 1 through 3 for ya.
Knight Rider Video Teaser
Say what you will about the upcoming Knight Rider reboot, but I’m kind of looking forward to it. So sue me, but I have a sort of affinity for the old show, although I can’t say as I’m a big fan of it, because I’ve only watched it on and off. Still, I’d like to see what they would do with a reboot of sorts, which NBC is planning.
Peter Berg Confirms Dune Remake Rumors
About two months ago, an intriguing rumor surfaced: Paramount is seeking the rights to Frank Herbert’s Dune in order to set up Peter Berg (“The Kingdom”) as a potential franchise director. Well forget rumor — it’s fact. Berg says about the project to MTV that he directing the new Dune franchise is a “done deal”, and that they would be in production now if not for the writer’s strike.
More About Stargate: The Ark of Truth
As previously reported, the first of two “Stargate” made-for-DVD movies, “The Ark of Truth”, will be making its DVD bow on March 11, 2008 from MGM Home Entertainment. Now Sci Fi Wire has released more details about the movie, including when it starts, what it’ll be about, and some DVD features.
Jon Hamm Joins The Day the Earth Stood Still Remake
In case you haven’t heard, Hollywood is remaking a contemporary version of the 1951 sci-fi classic “The Day the Earth Stood Still”. The remake was announced a while back, and would star Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly, and would be directed by Scott Derrickson (“The Exorcism of Emily Rose”). Now Reuters reports that Jon Hamm, of the AMC TV series Mad Men, has joined the cast.
USA Network Cancels The 4400, The Dead Zone
For some reason, I was never to really get into The 4400. I don’t know why, because the whole premise should really appeal to me — 4400 people, abducted from different timelines, suddenly all return to the present with superpowers. I mean, that’s a great premise! But alas, I never got into it, and now news comes that the show has been cancelled by the USA Network.
The Bionic Woman has NOT Been Cancelled
At least not yet, according to NBC, who told TVGuide that the show has not been cancelled, but has merely gone on hiatus due to not having any scripts to shoot because of the ongoing Writer’s Strike. Of course, NBC doesn’t say what will happen once the show finishes up its initial 13-episode order, including an expected 2-episode relaunch of the show in January 2008.
William Shatner MAY do a Cameo in Trek 11
Anyone who is even mildly interested in science fiction has probably heard all the stories about William Shatner acting incredibly desperate to get himself a cameo in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Trek 11 movie. It’s getting a little sad, actually, but then again, we are talking about William Shatner here, and looking sad hasn’t exactly been something he’s shied away from. Now comes news that, Yes, maybe, Bill as Kirk might happen in Trek 11. Maybe.
Bionic Woman Has Been Cancelled?
That’s the rumor floating around the ‘net in recent days: that NBC has decided to ax it’s troubled Bionic Woman TV series. The show, an “update” of the classic TV series of the same name, starred British actress Michelle Ryan as a young woman who becomes bionic after a brutal car accident, and is recruited by government forces to fight evil. The show has had a long history of creative problems among its staff, and with declining ratings… Well, is it over for the Bionic Woman?
Star Trek 11 Writer Reveals Plot Details
I swear, I didn’t start the site to focus entirely on Star Trek 11, and to tell you the truth, the Trek series isn’t even my favorite of the sci-fi universe, but it just so happens that lately we’ve been hearing a lot about Trek 11, including these tidbits about the upcoming film from one of the movie’s writer, Roberto Orci, who says that the character Spock is integral to the story.
